Removal & Installation



  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the right front fender apron seal.
  4.  
  5. Remove the v-bank cover.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the inlet radiator hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front upper center suspension brace sub-assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the air cleaner assembly with the hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove the intake air surge tank, as follows:
    1. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt, and disconnect the speed control cable with the bracket.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connector.
    8.  
    9. Remove the 3 bolts, and disconnect the PS pressure tube From the intake air surge tank, throttle body bracket and No.1 engine hanger.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the 2 water bypass hoses and No.6 air hose.

    13. Disconnect the purge hose.

    15. Disconnect the hoses and cables.

    17. Remove the 2 bolts and No.1 engine hanger.
    18.  
    19. Remove the 2 bolts and throttle body bracket.

    21. Disconnect the engine wire from emission control valve set.
    22.  
    23. Using an 8 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and intake air surge tank.

  15. Remove the ignition coil. For more details, refer to the Engine Electrical Section.

  17. Remove the right and/or left cylinder head cover sub-assemblies, as follows:
    1. Using a E6 Torx® wrench, remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the engine wire protector, if necessary.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 9 bolts and cylinder head cover.
    4.

  19. Thoroughly clean the gasket mating surfaces.

To install:


WARNING
You must install the cylinder head cover within 3 minutes after applying the seal packing. Also, wait at least 2 hours after installing the cover to fill the engine with oil.

  1. Install the right side cylinder head (valve) cover as follows:
    1. Apply seal packing (part no. 08826-00080, or equivalent) to the cylinder head as shown in the accompanying illustration.
    2.  
    3. Install the cylinder head cover within 3 minutes of applying the seal packing, then install the 9 bolts. Tighten the bolts uniformly, in a few passes for a final torque of 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).

  3. Install the left side cylinder head (valve) cover as follows:
    1. Apply seal packing (part no. 08826-00080, or equivalent) to the cylinder head as shown in the accompanying illustration.
    2.  
    3. Install the cylinder head cover within 3 minutes of applying the seal packing, then install the 9 bolts. Tighten the bolts uniformly, in a few passes for a final torque of 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).

  5. Install ignition coil and tighten the retaining bolts to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install intake air surge tank, as follows:
    1. Using an 8 mm hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the air intake chamber assembly with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Uniformly tighten the bolts and nuts in several passes to a final torque of 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).

    3. Install the no.1 engine hanger with the 2 bolts and tighten to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Install the throttle body bracket with the 2 bolts and tighten to 14 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).

  9. Install the air cleaner assembly with hose.
  10.  
  11. Connect all vacuum hoses and connectors disconnected during removal.
  12.  
  13. Install the front suspension upper center brace sub-assembly and tighten the retainers to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the V-bank cover.
  16.  
  17. Fill the engine with proper type and amount of engine coolant.
  18.  
  19. After waiting a minimum of 2 hours, start the engine and inspect for engine coolant leaks.
