Throttle Body

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the coolant into a suitable container.
  4.  
  5. Remove air cleaner assembly with hose, as follows:
    1. Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) meter connector and wire clamp.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the VSV connector for Canister Closed Valve (CCV) and the air hose.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the 4 vacuum hoses and the ventilation hose no. 2.
    6.  
    7. Loosen the 2 hose clamps, and disconnect the air cleaner hose from the throttle body.
    8.  
    9. Remove the air cleaner cap with the hose.
    10.  
    11. Remove the air filter.
    12.  
    13. Remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner case.

  7. Unfasten the bolt, then disconnect the throttle body bracket.

  9. Remove throttle body assembly, as follows:
    1. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt and disconnect the speed control cable with the bracket.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the vacuum hose for the brake booster.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector.
    8.  
    9. Disconnect the Intake Air Control (IAC) valve connector.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the 2 water bypass hoses and air hose.

    13. Disconnect the 4 vacuum hoses.

    15. Remove the 3 nuts, throttle body assembly and gasket. Discard the gasket.

  11. If necessary, remove the throttle body no.2, as follows:
    1. Remove the 2 screws and cover.

    3. Remove the 3 screws and the throttle body no. 2.

    5. Remove the vacuum hose.
      WARNING
      Do not disassemble or adjust the throttle opener.

  13. Remove 3 throttle body screws and the throttle body.

  15. If necessary, remove the 2 screws and the TP sensor.
    1. If necessary, remove the 4 retaining screws and the Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve.

To install:

  1. If removed, install the ISC valve to the throttle body with a new gasket and secure the retaining screws to 32 inch lbs. (3.7 Nm).
  2.  
  3. If removed, install the TP sensor, as follows:
    1. Make sure that the throttle valve is fully closed.
    2.  
    3. insert the sensor to the throttle body with it turned counterclockwise by 30-60° against the fully-closed valve position.
    4.  
    5. By turning the sensor clockwise, install the sensor. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (2 Nm).

  5. Position a new gasket and install the throttle body with a new O-ring. Tighten the 3 screws to 61 inch lbs. (7 Nm).

  7. Position a new gasket and install the no. 2 throttle body with a new O-ring. Tighten the 2 screws to 61 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Position a new gasket and install the throttle body assembly. Tighten the retainers to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the throttle body bracket and tighten the retainers to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the remaining components in the reverse of the removal procedure.
  14.  
  15. Install air cleaner assembly with hose, in the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the 3 air cleaner case bolts to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Fill the engine with the proper type and amount of coolant.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable, then start the engine and check for coolant leaks. Check the coolant level and add more coolant if necessary.
