Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cables
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Cooling fan and shroud
     
    Belt tensioner
     
    Oil fill tube and adapter
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    Front cover
     
    Camshaft
     

  4.  
  5. Press the camshaft out of the timing gear.
  6.

  1. Install the camshaft key.
  2.  
  3. Heat the timing gear in an oven to 350°F (177°C) for 45 minutes.
    NOTE
    The camshaft gear will be permanently distorted if overheated. Do not exceed 350°F (177°C).

  4.  
  5. Install the timing gear to the camshaft with the timing marks facing out and the gear seated on the camshaft shoulder.
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Camshaft with the timing marks aligned
     
    Front cover. Tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
     
    Crankshaft pulley. Tighten the bolt to 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm).
     
    Oil fill tube and adapter. Tighten the mounting bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
     
    Belt tensioner. Tighten the mounting bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
     
    Cooling fan and shroud
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Negative battery cables
