    Accessory drive belt

    Engine cooling fan and shroud

    Negative battery cable

  2.
  3. Fill the cooling system.
  4.
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  6.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable

    Plastic air cleaner intake tube

Engine cooling fan shroud. Remove the lower half first.

    Upper radiator hose

  6.
  7. The thermal viscous fan drive/fan blade assembly is attached (threaded) to the water pump hub shaft. Remove the fan blade/fan drive assembly from water pump by turning the mounting nut counterclockwise (as viewed from front). Threads on the viscous fan drive are RIGHT HAND. A Snap-On® 36mm Fan Wrench (number SP346 from Snap-On® Cummins Diesel Tool Set number 2017DSP) can be used with Special Tool 6958 Spanner Wrench and Adapter Pins 8346 to prevent the pulley from rotating. Do not unbolt fan blade assembly from the viscous fan drive at this time.
    NOTE
If water pump is being replaced, do not unbolt fan blade assembly from the thermal viscous fan drive.

  8.
  9. Remove fan blade/fan drive assembly from vehicle
    NOTE
Do not store the fan clutch assembly horizontally, silicone may leak into the bearing grease and cause contamination.
