    Drain & Refill

    NOTE
Refer to the capacities chart for more information.

    1. Oil should be drained hot to ensure thorough purge of old oil and foreign matter.
    2.
    3. Position the truck on a level surface.
    4.
    5. Place a pan of sufficient capacity under the transmission and remove the upper (fill) plug to provide a vent opening.
    6.
    7. Remove the lower (drain) plug and allow all of the fluid to drain from the transmission.
    8.
    9. Reinstall the drain plug.
    10.
    11. Pump in sufficient lubricant to bring the level to the bottom of the filler plug opening.
    12.

    Fluid Level Check

The fluid level should be checked every 6 months or 6,000 miles (9500 km), whichever comes first.

    1. Park the truck on a level surface, turn the engine off, apply the parking brake and block the wheels.
    2.

    NOTE
Some models covered will need allen wrenches or a 3 / 8 inch drive ratchet without a socket to remove and install the drain and fill plugs. Be sure to use the correct tool for the job.

    1. Remove the filler plug from the side of the transmission case with a proper size wrench. The fluid level should be even with the bottom of the filler hole.
    2.
