Master Cylinder

Some models are equipped with a hydraulic clutch.

The clutch master cylinder is very similar to the brake master cylinder. The hydraulic fluid reservoir on these systems is mounted on the firewall. After removing the cap and diaphragm, check fluid against the level ring provided on the reservoir.

The system should be inspected periodically when other underhood services are performed. To prevent contamination of the system with dirt, ALWAYS clean the top and sides of the reservoir before opening.

Keep the reservoir topped up with DOT 3 fluid; Do NOT overfill. Note that the fluid level may actually rise as the clutch wears. A drop in level may indicate a problem.

Refer to the "Brake Master Cylinder" section preceding for information on use and handling of brake fluid. The same information applies for the hydraulic clutch.

Do NOT allow any petroleum base fluids to enter the clutch hydraulic system; this could cause seal damage.
