Transfer Case

Drain & Refill

The transfer case is serviced at the same time and in the same manner as the transmission. Draining while hot is recommended. Clean the area around the fill and drain plugs and remove both. Allow the lubricant to drain completely.

Clean and install the drain plug. Add the proper lubricant. See the section on "Level Check."

Fluid Level Check

On some vehicles, the skid plate must be removed to access the transfer case.

Position the vehicle on level ground. Remove the transfer case fill plug located on the left side of the transfer case. The fluid level should be up to the fill hole. If lubricant doesn't flow from the hold when the plug is removed, add lubricant until it does run out, then install the plug.
