Conventional Screw Clamp



  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly, if needed for access.
  2.  
  3. Perform the fuel system pressure release.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable(s).
  6.  
  7. Loosen the fuel intake and return hose clamps. Wrap a shop towel around each hose, twist and pull off each hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove each fitting and note the inlet diameter. Remove the copper washers.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Clean both ends of the fuel line with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  2.  
  3. Replace the copper washers with new washers.
  4.  
  5. Install the fuel fittings in the proper ports and tighten to 175 inch lbs. (20 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Using new original equipment type hose clamps, install the fuel return and supply hoses.
  8.  
  9. Reconnect the negative battery cable(s).
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  14.  

Latch Clip Type 1



  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable(s).
  6.  
  7. Clean the fitting of any foreign material before disassembly.
  8.  
  9. Pry up on the latch clip with a screwdriver and remove the clip from the quick-connect fitting.
  10.  
  11. Insert a proper fuel line removal tool, available from such companies as Lisle®, into the fuel line.
  12.  
  13. With the tool inserted inside the line releasing the locking fingers, pull the line releasing the connection.
  14.  
  15. Inspect the fitting, locking fingers and fuel line for damage, repair as necessary.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Clean both ends of the fuel line with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate fittings with a drop of clean engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Insert the fitting end onto the line or component until a click is heard.
  6.  
  7. Pull firmly on the fitting to verify the fitting is secure.
  8.  
  9. Install the latch clip onto the fitting. It snaps into position. If the clip will not fit, it indicates that the fuel line is not properly installed.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable(s).
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  14.  
  15. Install the air cleaner assembly.

Latch Clip Type 2



  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable(s).
  6.  
  7. Clean the fitting of any foreign material before disassembly.
  8.  
  9. Separate and unlatch the two small arms on the end of the clip and swing away from fuel line.
  10.  
  11. Slide the latch clip toward the fuel rail while lifting with a screwdriver.
  12.  
  13. Insert a proper fuel line removal tool, available from such companies as Lisle®, into the fuel line.
  14.  
  15. With the tool inserted inside the line releasing the locking fingers, pull the line releasing the connection.
  16.  
  17. Inspect the fitting, locking fingers and fuel line for damage, repair as necessary.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Clean both ends of the fuel line with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate fittings with a drop of clean engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Insert the fitting end onto the line or component until a click is heard.
  6.  
  7. Pull firmly on the fitting to verify the fitting is secure.
  8.  
  9. Install the latch clip onto the fitting. It snaps into position. If the clip will not fit, it indicates that the fuel line is not properly installed.

  11. Connect the negative battery cable(s).

  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Plastic Retainer Ring Type



  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable(s).
  6.  
  7. Clean the fitting of any foreign material before disassembly.
  8.  
  9. To release the fitting, firmly push the fitting towards the component it's attached to while firmly pushing the plastic retainer ring into the fitting.
  10.  
  11. Pull the fitting from the component or tube being disconnected. The plastic retainer will stay on the component or tube.
  12.  
  13. Inspect the fitting body and the fuel system component for damage. Replace as necessary.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Clean both ends of the fuel line with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate fittings with a drop of clean engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Insert the quick-connect fitting to the component or fuel tube and into the plastic retainer. When a connection is made, a click will be heard.
  6.  
  7. Pull firmly on the fitting to verify the fitting is secure.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable(s).
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  14.

Single-Tab Type



  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable(s).
  6.  
  7. Clean the fitting of any foreign material before disassembly.
  8.  
  9. Press the release tab on the side of the fitting to release the pull-tab.
  10.  


WARNING
The release tab must be pressed prior to releasing the pull-tab or the tab will be damaged.

  1. While pressing the release tab on the side of the fitting, use a small prytool to pry up the pull tab.
  2.  
  3. Raise the pull-tab until it separates from the quick-disconnect fitting. Discard the old pull-tab.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting.
  6.  
  7. Inspect the fitting body and the fuel system component for damage. Replace as necessary.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Clean both ends of the fuel line with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate fittings with a drop of clean engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Insert the quick-connect fitting into the fuel tube or component until the built-on stop on the fuel tube or component rests against the back of the fitting.
  6.  
  7. Obtain a new pull tab. Push the new tab down until it locks into place in the quick-connect fitting.
  8.  
  9. Pull firmly on the fitting to verify the fitting is secure.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable(s).
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  14.  
  15. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  16.

Two-Tab Type



  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable(s).
  6.  
  7. Clean the fitting of any foreign material before disassembly.
  8.  
  9. Squeeze the plastic retaining tabs against the sides of the fitting with your fingers.
  10.  
  11. Pull the fitting from the component or tube being disconnected. The plastic retainer will stay on the component or tube. The O-rings and spacer will remain in the fitting connector body.
  12.  
  13. Inspect the fitting body and the fuel system component for damage. Replace as necessary.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Clean both ends of the fuel line with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate fittings with a drop of clean engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Insert the quick-connect fitting to the component or fuel tube and into the plastic retainer. When a connection is made, a click will be heard.
  6.  
  7. Pull firmly on the fitting to verify the fitting is secure.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable(s).
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Install the air cleaner assembly.
  14.
