Power Door Locks



Diagnosis & Testing

For inoperative door lock condition.

  1. Check door lock motor circuit as follows:

  3. With the DRBIII®, read DTCs. If there are any door lock related DTC's, refer to symptom list for problems related to Power Door Locks and diagnose and repair the DTC's.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the inoperative Door Latch connector.
  6.  
  7. Connect a 12 volt test light between the Door Lock Driver and the Door Unlock Driver circuits in the latch connector.
  8.  
  9. Operate the door locks several times in the lock and unlock positions from a door lock switch and observe the test light.
  10.  
  11. If the test light illuminates brightly when the locks are actuated in both directions, circuit is working fine.
  12.  
  13. Replace door lock actuator assembly.

Removal & Installation
Door Lock Motor

The power door locks are part of the door latch assembly.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the window to the full up position.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screw that secures the interior door handle to the interior door handle actuator.
  6.  
  7. Remove the interior door handle from the interior door handle actuator.
  8.  
  9. If equipped, remove the manual window crank using a window crank removal tool.
  10.  
  11. Remove the two screws that secure the door trim panel to the two screw inserts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the two screws that secure the door trim panel to the bottom of the door.
  14.  
  15. Lift the door trim panel straight upward to disconnect the molded plastic retaining clips from the door.
  16.  
  17. If equipped, disconnect the door wire harness from the power door switch assembly and remove the door trim panel.

  19. Position the water dam out of the way and disconnect the actuator rod from the door latch and the interior door handle actuator and remove the rod.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the door wire harness connector from the door latch.
  22.  
  23. Remove the three bolts that secure the door latch to the door and remove the latch.

To install:

  1. Position the door latch into the door.
  2.  
  3. Install the three bolts that secure the door latch to the door. Tighten the bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the door wire harness connector to the door latch.
  6.  
  7. Connect the actuator rod to the door latch and the interior door handle actuator.
  8.  
  9. Reposition the water dam to the door.
  10.  
  11. If equipped, connect the door wire harness to the power door switch assembly.
  12.  
  13. Position the door trim panel and align the molded plastic retaining clips to the door.
  14.  
  15. Push the door trim panel straight downward until all of the retaining clips are fully engaged to the door.
  16.  
  17. Install the two screws that secure the door trim panel to the two screw inserts.
  18.  
  19. Install the two screws that secure the door trim panel to the bottom of the door.
  20.  
  21. If equipped, install the manual window crank.
  22.  
  23. Position the interior door handle onto the interior door handle actuator.
  24.  
  25. Install the screw that secures the interior door handle to the interior door handle actuator. Tighten the screw securely.

Door Lock Switch
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise the window to the full up position.
  6.  
  7. Remove the screw that secures the interior door handle to the interior door handle actuator.
  8.  
  9. Remove the interior door handle from the interior door handle actuator.
  10.  
  11. If equipped, remove the manual window crank using a window crank removal tool.
  12.  
  13. Remove the two screws that secure the door trim panel to the two screw inserts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the two screws that secure the door trim panel to the bottom of the door.
  16.  
  17. Lift the door trim panel straight upward to disconnect the molded plastic retaining clips from the door.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the door wire harness from the power door switch assembly and remove the door trim panel.
  20.  
  21. Remove the switch from the trim panel bezel.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Install switch to trim panel bezel.
  2.  
  3. Connect the door wire harness to the power door switch assembly.
  4.  
  5. Position the door trim panel and align the molded plastic retaining clips to the door.
  6.  
  7. Push the door trim panel straight downward until all of the retaining clips are fully engaged to the door.
  8.  
  9. Install the two screws that secure the door trim panel to the two screw inserts.
  10.  
  11. Install the two screws that secure the door trim panel to the bottom of the door.
  12.  
  13. If equipped, install the manual window crank.
  14.  
  15. Position the interior door handle onto the interior door handle actuator.
  16.  
  17. Install the screw that secures the interior door handle to the interior door handle actuator. Tighten the screw securely.
