Removal & Installation



Dual Rear Wheels
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the disc brake caliper.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper adapter bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the caliper adapter.
  12.  
  13. Remove axle shaft flange bolts and remove axle shaft.
  14.  
  15. Remove retainer ring from the axle shaft tube.
  16.  
  17. Remove hub bearing nut locking key form axle tube.
  18.  
  19. Remove hub bearing nut with special socket 8954.
  20.  
  21. Remove the hub and rotor assembly.
  22.  
  23. Disassemble the hub from the rotor if needed by removing the bolts.

To install:

  1. Install the hub to the rotor. Tighten the bolts to 95 ft. lbs. (128 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Slide hub on the axle tube and install front bearing into the hub.
  4.  
  5. Install hub bearing nut with Socket 8954 and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) while rotating the hub.
  6.  
  7. Back off nut about 30° and align next hub nut key slot with axle tube key slot and install locking key.
  8.  
  9. Install retainer ring with ring end in the key slot.
  10.  
  11. Install new axle shaft gasket and install the axle shaft.
    WARNING
    Axle flange bolts must be replaced or use Mopar® Lock N' Seal or Loctite® 242 on cleaned existing bolts.

  13. Install axle shaft flange bolts and tighten to 95 ft. lbs. (129 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the caliper adapter bolts and tighten to 145 ft. lbs. (197 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the disc brake caliper and tighten the mounting bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  18.  
  19. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  20.  
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22.  

Single Rear Wheel
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.

  7. Remove the disc brake caliper.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper adapter bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the retaining clips and rotor assembly.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the rotor to the axle shaft.
  2.  
  3. Install the caliper adapter.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the caliper adapter bolts as follows:

    Light Duty (LD): 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm)
     
    Heavy Duty (HD): 145 ft. lbs. (197 Nm)
     

  6.  
  7. Install the disc brake caliper. Then install and tighten the bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.
