Engine Identification

The engine identification code can be found on a label attached to the engine. The label contains, among other information, the engine calibration number, the engine build date, the engine plant code, and the engine ID number.

Engine codes are as follows:

D - 2.3L, EFI, four cylinder, gas
U - 3.0L, V6, gas
E - 4.0L, SOHC, V6, gas

Another important label is the emission calibration label, located on the on either the driver-s or passenger-s door or door jamb. This label identifies the engine calibration, engine code and revision numbers. These numbers are used to determine if parts are unique to specific engines.

It is imperative that the engine codes and calibration number be used when ordering parts or making inquiries about the engine.
