REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CRV Models



UPPER ARM
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire/wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper arm-to-body through bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper arm through bolt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper arm.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following steps:

    Lubricate the body side bushing with silicone grease.
     
    Tighten the arm-to-body flange bolts to 29 ft lbs. (39 Nm)
     
    Tighten the upper arm through bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
     
    Tighten the lug nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)

LOWER ARM
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire/wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner and outer bushing flanged through bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer bar link flange nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower arm.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following steps:

    Lubricate the outer arm bushing with silicone grease.
     
    Tighten the stabilizer bar link flange nut to 22 ft lbs. (29 Nm)
     
    Tighten the bushing through bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm)
     
    Tighten the lug nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)

4-Cylinder Odyssey Models

UPPER ARM
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire/wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper arm-to-body through bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper arm ball joint bolt.
  8.  
  9. Using a suitable ball joint/tie end removal tool, remove the ball joint.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper arm.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following steps:

    Lubricate the body side bushing with silicone grease.
     
    Tighten the ball joint nut to 29-35 ft lbs. (39-47 Nm), install using a new cotter pin
     
    Tighten the upper arm through bolt to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm)
     
    Tighten the lug nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)

LOWER ARM A
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire/wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner bushing flanged through bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the flange nut, then remove the lower arm.
  8.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following steps:

    Lubricate the inner arm bushing with silicone grease.
     
    Tighten the flange nut to 47 ft lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Tighten the bushing through bolts to 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm)
     
    Tighten the lug nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)

LOWER ARM B
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. Place a floor jack under the lower control arm spring perch and raise it slightly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the shock absorber flange through bolt and the knuckle flange through bolt from the lower control arm.
  8.  
  9. Collapse and remove and the shock assembly. For specific details, see the shock removal procedures in this section.
  10.  
  11. Slowly lower the floor jack to release the tension on the coil spring.
  12.  
  13. Remove the coil spring and the upper and lower spring seats.
  14.  
  15. Matchmark the inner bushing concentric washer location for reassembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the inner arm bushing through bolt.
  18.  
  19. Remove the lower arm.
  20.  

To install:
  1. Lubricate the inner busing with silicone grease.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower arm and it's through bolt using a new flange nut. Do not tighten it at this time.
  4.  
  5. Replace the upper and lower spring seats if they are distorted or have disintegrated.
  6.  
  7. Install the spring seats into position.
  8.  
  9. Install the coil spring. Align the ends of the coil with the notches on the spring seats.
  10.  
  11. Raise the floor jack under the lower control arm to compress the spring.
  12.  
  13. Install the shock absorber and knuckle flange bolts and hand tighten them only at this point.
  14.  
  15. Lower the jack and move it under the knuckle. Raise the jack under the knuckle until it is supporting the weight of the vehicle. Tighten each of the inner bushing flange nut to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm), the two flange bolts to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm) and the shock flange nuts to 28 ft lbs. (38 Nm).

  17. Lower the floor jack. Install the rear wheels. Lower the vehicle.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the wheel nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Check and adjust the rear wheel alignment as necessary.

V6 Odyssey Models

UPPER ARM
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire/wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper arm-to-body through bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper arm ball joint bolt.
  8.  
  9. Using a suitable ball joint/tie end removal tool, remove the ball joint.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper arm.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following steps:

    Tighten the ball joint nut to 36-43 ft lbs. (49-58 Nm), install using a new cotter pin
     
    Tighten the upper arm through bolt to: 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Tighten the lug nuts to: 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)
     

  2.  

LOWER ARM A
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear tire/wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the flanged through bolt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the flange nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower arm.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following steps:

    Tighten the flange nut to 47 ft lbs. (64 Nm)
     
    Tighten the bushing through bolts to: 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm)
     
    Tighten the lug nuts to: 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm)
     

  2.  

LOWER ARM B
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear coil spring assembly. For details, please refer to the removal and installation procedures in this section.
  6.  
  7. Matchmark the inner bushing eccentric washer location for reassembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the inner arm bushing through bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower arm.
  12.  

To install:
  1. Install the lower arm and it's through bolt using a new flange nut. Align the eccentric washer matchmarks. Do not tighten it at this time.
  2.  
  3. Install the spring assembly, following the procedures in this section.
  4.  
  5. Raise the floor jack under the lower control arm to compress the spring. Tighten the new inner bushing flange nut to 61 ft. lbs. (83 Nm)
  6.  
  7. Lower the floor jack. Install the rear wheels. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the wheel nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Check and adjust the rear wheel alignment as necessary.
