Strut Assembly

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION CRV models



  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the side access panel in the rear cargo area.
  6.  
  7. Remove the flange bolts through the access panel.
  8.  
  9. Remove the strut assembly flange through bolt from the lower control arm.
  10.  
  11. Carefully lower the rear strut assembly from the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Place the strut assembly in a suitable vise and using a suitable spring compressor, compress the spring.
  14.  
  15. Use a 5mm hex key to hold the strut dampening rod and remove the self-locking nut.
  16.  
  17. Remove the washer, rubber busing collar, mounting base, mounting bushing, and spring mounting rubber.
  18.  
  19. Remove the spring.
  20.

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following:

    Install a new strut damper rod self-locking nut and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm).
     
    Tighten the strut flange mounting nuts to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
     
    Tighten the strut-to-control arm through bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).

OVERHAUL



The strut assembly cannot be overhauled. If worn or damaged, it must be replaced.
