SHIFT LINKAGE

  1. Place the selector in Park.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the car on jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the adjustment yoke nuts and slide the yoke and cable forward to take up all slack.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the yoke nuts and lower the car.
  8.  

R-12, R-15, R-17 and Gordini

  1. Place the selector level in Park. In this range it must be as truly vertical as possible.
  2.  
  3. To attain a vertical alignment in Park, loosen the two shift quadrant retaining bolts and slide the quadrant back and forth until the shifter is as vertical as possible. Tighten the bolts.

  1. Raise and support the car on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Place the shifter in neutral.
  4.  
  5. Unbolt the shift linkage rod at the shifter end, make sure that the transmission case shift lever is in the neutral position.
  6.  
  7. Reconnect the linkage rod and tighten the bolt to 13 ft. lbs.
  8.  

KICK-DOWN SWITCH

This adjustment is closely related to the governor cable adjustment and should be made in conjunction with that adjustment. Kickdown adjustment is made at the accelerator pedal.

With the accelerator pedal completely depressed, make sure that the cable stop sleeve can still move about 1 / 16 inch.

  1. Back off the locknut on the governor cable at the governor control lever. Remove the cable end from the control lever.
  2.  
  3. Turn the threaded cable end so that it is about halfway into the control lever.
  4.  
  5. Place the cable end ball into its slot in the control lever.
  6.  
  7. Make sure that the other end of the cable is in place at the carburetor.
  8.  
  9. Depress the accelerator all the way, and remove all play from the cable by adjusting the sleeve stop on the cable at the carburetor end.

  1. Turn the control unit central shaft to the maximum position. This will correspond to 1st gear "Hold".
  2.  
  3. Set the lever, where it comes out of the case, to the 1st gear "Hold" position. Loosen the control unit screws.
  4.  
  5. Turn the lever, and the body of the electronic control unit, simultaneously, in toward the transaxle case, until a turning resistance is felt.
  6.  
  7. Tighten the retaining screws carefully to avoid squashing the plastic shims.
