Oxygen Sensor

The Alliance, 18i and Fuego have this equipment. An indicator, connected to the speedometer cable and attached to the air cleaner bracket, lights up between 29,686 and 30,106 miles. This system lights a warning lamp when the oxygen sensor needs replacement. The sensor is located in the exhaust pipe, just below the manifold.

The sensor is replaced by simply unscrewing the old one and screwing in the new one. The threads of the new sensor must be coated with anti-seize compound prior to installation. To turn off the indicator lamp after the sensor has been replaced, remove the indicator switch cover. Turn the square head button one quarter turn counterclockwise, toward the stamped O. Replace the cover and wires.
