  1. Remove the timing cover, camshaft sprocket and timing chain as previously outlined.
  2.
  3. Remove the valve cover (and the pushrods were applicable).
  4.
  5. Remove the cylinder head as previously outlined.
  6.
  7. Remove the air injection pump sprocket where applicable.
  8.
  9. Remove the camshaft flange screws.
  10.
  11. Temporarily reinstall the camshaft sprocket (to assist in removal as a handle) and carefully withdraw the camshaft from the engine.
  12.
  13. Remove the camshaft oil seal.
  14.
  15. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Take note of the following:
  16.
    1. On LeCar and Alliance models, check the clearance between the camshaft and the flange with a feeler gauge. The clearance should be between 0.002-0.005 in. If the clearance is excessive, the flange should be replaced.
    2.
    3. On 1,647cc engines, make sure there is 0.012-0.020 in. clearance between the chain and the tensioner pads.
    4.
    5. Use the proper seal installation tool to install a new camshaft oil seal.
    6.
    7. Install the camshaft from the timing chain end of the engine.
    8.
