Intake/Exhaust Manifold

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



1,647cc Carbureted Engines
  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system to a level below the manifold.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the linkage at the carburetor.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the manifold coolant hoses.
  10.  
  11. Remove the carburetor.
  12.  
  13. Unbolt and remove the manifold.
  14.  
  15. Clean the old gasket material from the mating surfaces. Always use a new gasket.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the bolts to the value shown in the torque chart.

The intake manifold is designed as an integral part of the fuel injection system, and is disassembled with that system's components.

Some models may require the engine to be lifted on one side to ease removal.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air cleaner.
  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system to a point just below the manifold.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the linkage from the carburetor or Throttle Body Injection (TBI) unit.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the manifold coolant hoses.
  10.  
  11. Remove the carburetor or TBI unit.
  12.  
  13. Unbolt and remove the manifolds.
  14.  
  15. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and that a new gasket is used. Tighten the bolts to the value shown in the Torque Specification chart.

The intake manifold and exhaust manifold are integral with the fuel injection system and may be disassembled with that system's components.
