1,289 and 1,397cc Engines

  1. Drain the oil.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the car on jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front anti-sway bar bushings.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower transaxle shield.
  8.  
  9. Unbolt the gearshift control bracket from the transaxle.
  10.  
  11. Remove the right, lateral reinforcement piece.
  12.  
  13. Remove the clutch shield.
  14.  
  15. Place a floor jack under the nose of the transaxle and support it so that the front pad can be removed.
  16.  
  17. Raise the front of the transaxle as much as possible.
  18.  
  19. Remove the oil pan bolts. Tilt down the front of the pan and turn the crankshaft so that the crankshaft throws do not interfere with pan removal. Remove the pan and gaskets.
  20.  
  21. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean. Coat the new gasket and seals with sealer.

1,565, 1,647 and 2,167cc Engines
  1. Raise and support the car on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Drain the oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pan bolts and lower the pan.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure that the mating surfaces are free of old gasket material and dirt. Never reuse a gasket. Coat the gasket surfaces with sealer, position the gasket and seals on the pan, install the pan and tighten the bolts to 5-7 ft. lbs. (60-84 inch lbs.).
