  1. Remove the oil pan.
  2.  
  3. Unbolt and remove the pump and pick-up.
  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  6.

1,289 and 1,397cc Engines
  1. Remove the four pump cover bolts.
  2.  

Don't let the ball seat, ball and pressure limiter valve jump out!

  1. Remove the driven gear, drive gear and drive gear shaft.
  2.  
  3. Clean all the parts in a safe solvent. Check each part for signs of wear or damage. Replace parts as needed.
  4.  
  5. Check the pump seal surface. If the surface is at all marked, it must be polished or reground to remove the marks.
  6.  
  7. Check the clearance between the gears and pump body. Maximum clearance is 0.008 in. If the clearance exceeds that figure, the gears must be replaced.
  8.  
  9. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly.
  10.  

1,565, 1,647 and 2,167cc Engines
  1. Remove the pick-up tube bolts.
  2.  
  3. Remove the cotter pin from the pressure release valve and take out the spring cup, spring and piston.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rotors.
  6.  
  7. Clean all parts in a safe solvent and check them for wear or damage. Replace parts as necessary.
  8.  
  9. Check the rotor clearance as shown. In position 1, the clearance (A) should be 0.002-0.011 in. In position 2, clearance (B) should be 0.001-0.006 in. If the clearance exceeds these figures, replace the rotors.
  10.  
  11. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly.
