REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



Alliance and Encore
  1. Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the caliper and suspend it out of the way. Do not disconnect the brake line.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stub axle nut and washer, and slide the rotor from the stub axle spindle.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the stub axle nut to 90 ft. lbs.
  8.

Special tools are required for this procedure.

  1. Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the caliper and suspend it out of the way. Do not disconnect the brake lines.
  4.  
  5. Remove the caliper bracket.
  6.  
  7. Attach a slide hammer with hub puller adapter, under the lug nuts. Remove the stub shaft nut and washer.
  8.  
  9. Using the slide hammer, pull the hub and rotor.
  10.  
  11. Install the rotor/hub assembly using Renault special tool number T.Av.409-01, or its equivalent. Tighten the stub axle nut to 90 ft. lbs.; the caliper bracket bolts to 50 ft. lbs.

R-12, R-15, R-17 and Gordini

Special tools are required for this procedure.

  1. Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the calipers.
  4.  
  5. Remove the caliper brackets.
  6.  
  7. Remove the three screws securing the rotor to the hub.
  8.  
  9. Clear the threads in the holes with an 8mm X 125 pitch tap.
  10.  
  11. Install Renault tool number Rou.436-01 on the hub and remove the stub shaft nut.
  12.  
  13. Screw three bolts tool number Rou.482-01 into the hub. Position one of the bolts at the front under the nut for the bearing closure plate fixing bolt. Check that the bolts are in direct contact with the stub axle. Tighten each bolt alternately, a little at a time, and remove the hub/rotor assembly.

  15. Install the assembly using Renault tool number T.Av.236. Tighten the stub axle nut to 115 ft. lbs.; caliper bracket bolts to 50 ft. lbs.
  16.  

R-18, Fuego and Sport Wagon
  1. Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake pads.
  6.  
  7. Unbolt and remove the calipers.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rotor attaching bolts from the hub face.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rotor from the hub.
  12.  

In some cases, it will be necessary to slightly loosen the stub axle end nut in order to free the bearing cup, so that the disc (rotor) can be removed.

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the caliper bolts to 44 ft. lbs.; the stub axle nut to 185 ft. lbs.
