Renault vehicles are identified by two plates in the engine compartment. One plate, diamond shaped through 1979 and rectangular beginning in 1980, shows the model number, serial number, maximum gross vehicle weight (GVW), maximum gross axle weight rating, date of manufacture and vehicle class. The other plate, oval in shape, as indicated by the illustration, shows:
