Wheel Bearings

Removal & Installation



All Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Brake caliper and support it with a piece of wire
     
    Brake caliper bracket
     
    Rotor
     
    Wheel speed sensor connector from the sensor and bracket
     
    Halfshaft from the hub and bearing
     
    Bearing/hub bolts and bearing/hub
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Bearing/hub. Tighten the bolts to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm) for drum brakes; 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm) with disc brakes.
     
    Halfshaft
     
    Wheel speed sensor connector to the bracket and sensor
     
    Rotor
     
    Caliper bracket
     
    Caliper
     
    Tire and wheel
     

  2.  

Front Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. For axle beam suspension, remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Brake drum
     
    Wheel speed sensor lead
     
    Wheel bearing bolts
     
    Wheel bearing/hub
     

  4.  
  5. If equipped with non-axle beam, remove or disconnect the following:

    Remove the wheel bearing/hub assembly knuckle bolts.
     
    Remove the wheel bearing/hub assembly from the knuckle.

  6.  

To install:

  1. For axle beam suspension, install bearing/hub to the axle beam. Torque the bolts to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm) for drum brakes; 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm) with disc brakes.

    Wheel speed sensor electrical connector to the bearing/hub assembly
     
    Brake drum
     
    Rear wheel
     

  2.  
  3. If equipped with nonaxle beam, install or connect the following:

    wheel bearing/hub assembly on to the knuckle
     
    Install the bolts into the wheel bearing/hub assembly, torque to 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm).
     
    Brake drum
     
    Rear wheel
