Operation

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

As the APP sensor position changes, the sensor varies the signal voltage to the PCM. The APP is 2 individual sensors within one housing. One APP sensor voltage increases as the accelerator pedal is depressed and the other sensor voltage decreases as the accelerator pedal is depressed.

Removal & Installation

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

  1. Remove the throttle cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor 6P connector (A).
  4.
  5. Remove the bolts (B) and the APP sensor (C).
  6.

To install:

  1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
  2.

Testing

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

This procedure checks the APP sensor in its fully closed position. In any other position, the APP sensor stores DTCs which are covered in other troubleshooting procedure. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS before doing this procedure. If any DTCs are indicated, troubleshoot them first, then do this procedure.

NOTE
Press the accelerator pedal several times to check its operation. If it does not operate smoothly, check the pedal, the throttle cable, and the APP sensor individually. If you find a problem in one of them, replace the part(s) that caused the problem.

  1. Connect a HDS or equivalent scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON .
  4.
  5. Make sure the accelerator pedal is not pressed, then check the APP SENSOR in the DATA LIST.
    1. If it is below 2 percent, the APP sensor is OK.
    2.
    3. If it is above 2 percent, adjust the throttle cable.
    4.

  6.
  7. Make sure the accelerator pedal is not pressed, then check the APP SENSOR in the DATA LIST.
    1. If it is below 2 percent, the APP sensor is OK.
    2.
    3. If it is above 2 percent, update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then go to step 5.
    4.

  8.
  9. Make sure the accelerator pedal is not pressed, then check the APP SENSOR in the DATA LIST.
    1. If it is below 2 percent, the APP sensor is OK.
    2.
    3. If it is above 2 percent, replace the APP sensor.
