Operation



Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

The CKP sensor detects crankshaft speed and is used by the PCM to determine ignition timing and timing for fuel injection of each cylinder, as well as detecting engine misfire.

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Move the auto-tensioner to remove tension from the drive belt, then remove the belt.
  4.  
  5. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  6.  
  7. Remove the upper and lower front covers from the engine.
  8.  
  9. Remove the CKP sensor from the oil pump.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
  2.  
  3. Tighten sensor mounting bolt to 7 ft. lbs. (9 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Using a scan tool, perform the CKP pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure.
  6.  

Testing



Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

  1. Connect an HDS or equivalent scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON .
  4.  
  5. Check the CMP SENSOR in the DATA LIST.
  6.  
  7. If voltage is not modulating in a square wave pattern and within specification, inspect the connectors and wiring harness.
  8.  
  9. If no faults are found, replace the sensor.
