Operation



Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

The VSS assembly provides vehicle speed information to the transmission control module (TCM) and powertrain control module (PCM).

Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Remove the splash shield.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector, and remove the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor (A).
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install a new O-ring (B) on the new output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor, then install the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor in the transmission housing.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the sensor to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Check the connector for rust, dirt, or oil, then connect the connector securely.
  6.  
  7. Install the splash shield.
  8.  

Testing



Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

  1. Connect an HDS or equivalent scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON .
  4.  
  5. Check the CMP SENSOR in the DATA LIST.
  6.  
  7. If voltage is not modulating in a square wave pattern and within specification, inspect the connectors and wiring harness.
  8.  
  9. If no faults are found, replace the sensor.
  10.
