Crankshaft Front Seal

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Make sure the anti-theft codes for the audio system and navigation system (if equipped) are available.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the side engine mount.
  10.  
  11. Remove the valve cover.
  12.  
  13. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  14.  
  15. Remove the front cover.
  16.  
  17. Remove the timing belt.
  18.  
  19. Remove the Top Dead Center (TDC) sensor, if equipped.
  20.  
  21. Remove the crankshaft timing sprocket.
  22.  
  23. Remove the front crankshaft seal.

To install:

  1. Lubricate the crankshaft seal lip with grease prior to installation.
  2.  
  3. Install the front crankshaft seal so that it is flush with the surface of the oil pump housing.
  4.  
  5. Install the crankshaft timing sprocket.
  6.  
  7. Install the Top Dead Center (TDC) sensor, if equipped.
  8.  
  9. Install the timing belt.
  10.  
  11. Install the front cover.
  12.  
  13. Install the crankshaft pulley. Tighten the bolt to 181 ft. lbs. (245 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the valve cover.
  16.  
  17. Install the side engine mount.
  18.  
  19. Install the accessory drive belts.
  20.  
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22.  
  23. Enter the anti-theft codes for the audio system and the navigation system (if equipped).
  24.  
  25. Set the clock on vehicles without navigation.
  26.  
  27. Perform the power window control unit reset procedure.
  28.  
  29. Check the engine oil level and add if necessary.
  30.  
  31. Start the engine and check for leaks.
