Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  4.  
  5. Drain the oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove the splash shield.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front subframe stiffener.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
  12.  
  13. Remove the catalytic converter bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove the torque converter cover.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 4 lower transaxle-to-engine bolts.
  18.  
  19. Remove the oil pan bolts.
  20.  
  21. Pry at the pry-points to break loose the oil pan.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Clean the pan and all mounting surfaces thoroughly.
  2.  
  3. Apply RTV gasket material to the oil pan flange as shown.
  4.  
  5. Position the pan on the block and install the bolts. Torque the bolts, in the sequence shown, in 2 even steps, to 104 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
    NOTE
    Wait at least 30 minutes before filling with oil.

  6.  
  7. Torque the transaxle bolts to 54 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the cover.
  10.  
  11. Install the converter bracket.
  12.  
  13. Install the exhaust pipe using new gaskets and new self-locking nuts. Torque the flange-to-crossover nuts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm), the hanger bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm) and the flange-to-converter nuts to 25 ft. lbs. (33 Nm).

  15. Install the stiffener. Torque the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the splash shield.
  18.  
  19. Refill the engine oil.
