Lower Control Arms

Removal & Installation




NOTE
The control arm bushings are an integral part of the lower control arms and not serviced separately.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front wheels.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the strut.
  6.  
  7. Remove and discard the lower ball joint nut.
  8.  
  9. Separate the lower ball stud from the knuckle.

  11. Remove and discard the lower arm horizontal and vertical bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lower arm.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following:
  2.  
  3. Use new bolts and nuts.
  4.  
  5. Install all fasteners loosely, then, final torque all fasteners with the suspension loaded (weight of the car).
  6.  
  7. Never back off the ball stud nut to align the cotter pin holes. Always tighten it to align.
  8.  
  9. Observe the following torque specifications:

    Vertical lower arm bolt: 83 ft. lbs. (113 Nm)
     
    Horizontal lower arm bolt: 119 ft. lbs. (162 Nm)
     
    Ball stud nut: 69 ft. lbs. (93 Nm)
     
    Stabilizer link nut: 58 ft. lbs. (78 Nm)
