Removal & Installation

  1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio and navigation systems.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least 3 minutes.
  4.  
  5. Properly discharge and recover the refrigerant.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the suction and receiver lines from the evaporator. Cap the openings.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the heater coolant valve cable at the valve and fully open the valve.
  10.  
  11. Drain the coolant.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the heater hoses at the core tubes.
  14.  
  15. Remove the heater unit mounting nut.
  16.  
  17. Remove the driver-s side dashboard lower cover.
  18.  
  19. Remove the dashboard center lower cover.
  20.  
  21. Remove the center console.
  22.  
  23. Remove the glove box.
  24.  
  25. Remove the driver-s side dashboard side cover.
  26.  
  27. Remove the both kick panels.
  28.  
  29. Remove the both A-pillar trim panels.
  30.  
  31. Place the wheels in the straight-ahead position.
  32.  
  33. Remove the steering wheel air bag access cover and disconnect the air bag connector from the cable reel.
  34.  
  35. Remove the 2 Torx® bolts, one each side of the steering wheel hub.
  36.  
  37. Disconnect the horn switch connector.
  38.  
  39. Remove the air bag.
  40.  
  41. Disconnect the cable reel harness.
  42.  
  43. Remove the steering wheel nut.
  44.  
  45. Using a puller, remove the steering wheel.

  47. Remove the steering coupler cover from the floor.

  49. Set the column shaft to the neutral position by raising the column to the uppermost position, then lower it 8mm (0.31 in.). Tighten the tilt lever.

  51. Remove the column covers.
  52.  
  53. Move the shift lever to N and remove the shift cable from the column.
  54.  
  55. Remove the combination switch.
  56.  
  57. Disconnect the ignition switch.
  58.  
  59. Disconnect the immobilizer receiver unit, the park pin switch and the shift lock solenoid.
  60.  
  61. Matchmark and disconnect the steering joint from the column shaft.
  62.  
  63. Remove the attaching bolts and nuts and remove the steering column.
  64.  
  65. Disconnect the shift cable.
  66.  
  67. Remove the parking brake release lever bolt.
  68.  
  69. Remove the passenger-s side dashboard side cover.
  70.  
  71. Remove the right speaker grille.
  72.  
  73. Remove the console front bracket.
  74.  
  75. Remove the rear vent duct.
  76.  
  77. Remove the rear heater duct.
  78.  
  79. Disconnect the cabin wiring harness.
  80.  
  81. Disconnect the interior wiring harness.
  82.  
  83. Disconnect the left side wiring harness.
  84.  
  85. Disconnect the parking brake switch.
  86.  
  87. Disconnect the brake switch.
  88.  
  89. Disconnect the dashboard wiring harness.
  90.  
  91. Disconnect the under-dash fuse/relay box.
    NOTE
    Lift the large harness connector locks before trying to remove the connectors from the fuse/relay box.

  93. Disconnect the SRS control unit.
  94.  
  95. Disconnect the GPS antenna.
  96.  
  97. Disconnect the floor wiring harness, and remove the ground bolt.
  98.  
  99. From under the dash on the passenger-s side, disconnect:

  101. Disconnect the door wiring harness.
  102.  
  103. Disconnect the radio antenna.
  104.  
  105. Disconnect the cabin wiring harness.
  106.  
  107. Disconnect the right side harness.
  108.  
  109. Disconnect the front glass defogger.
  110.  
  111. Open the driver-s door. See the illustration and completely loosen upper bolts A and B. Then, remove bolts C, D, E and F. Lift up on the dashboard (G) to release it from the guide pins (H&I).
    NOTE
    Don-t open the door fully with the driver-s side upper dash bolts partially removed. Before removing the dashboard, open the driver-s door to the half open position, then pull the upper dash bolts outward.

  113. Disconnect the blower motor and power transistor wiring.

  115. Disconnect the mode control motor and recirculation control motor.

  117. Disconnect the evaporator sensor and air control mix motor.
  118.  
  119. Remove the mounting nuts and the blower/heater unit.
  120.  
  121. Remove the joint duct (A).
  122.  
  123. Remove the heater outlet (C).
  124.  
  125. Remove the heater core cover (D).
  126.  
  127. Remove the heater pip brackets (E).
  128.  
  129. Remove the heater core (G).

  131. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  132.  
  133. Evacuate, charge and leak test the A/C system.
  134.  
  135. Torque the steering wheel nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
