Power Windows



Control Unit Reset

Resetting the driver's power window is required when any of the following have occurred:



Power window regulator replacement or repair
 
Power window motor replacement or repair
 
Window run channel replacement or repair
 
Driver's door glass replacement or repair
 
Power is removed from a power window control unit while the power window timer is on.
 

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON .
  2.  
  3. Move the driver's power window all the way down by using the driver's power window DOWN switch.
  4.  
  5. Open the driver's door.
    NOTE
    Steps 4-7 must be done within 5 seconds of each other.

  6.  
  7. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  8.  
  9. Push and hold the driver's power window DOWN switch.
  10.  
  11. Turn the ignition switch ON .
  12.  
  13. Release the driver's power window DOWN switch.
  14.  
  15. Repeat steps 4-7 three more times.
  16.  
  17. Wait 1 second.
  18.  
  19. Confirm that AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If they do work, go back to step 1.
  20.  
  21. Move the driver's power window all the way down by using the driver's power window DOWN switch.
  22.  
  23. Pull up and hold the driver's power window UP switch until the window reaches the fully closed position, then continue to hold the switch for 1 second.
  24.  
  25. Confirm that the power window control unit is reset by using the driver's power window AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN function.
  26.  
  27. If the window still does not work in AUTO , repeat the procedure several times, paying close attention to the 5 second time limit between steps.
  28.  

Diagnosis & Testing
Driver-s Side Master Switch

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008


WARNING
Make sure the ignition switch is OFF before disconnecting the connectors.

  1. Before testing the power windows, troubleshoot the multiplex integrated control system by checking for and repairing any DTC-s.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  4.  
  5. Remove the power window master switch.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the 23P connector (A) from the power window master switch (B).

  9. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.
  10.  
  11. If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
  12.  
  13. If the terminals look OK, go to step 6.
  14.  
  15. With the connector still disconnected, make these input tests at the connector.
  16.  
  17. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
  18.  
  19. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 7.

  21. Reconnect the connector to the power window master switch, turn the ignition switch ON (II) and make these input tests at the connector.
  22.  
  23. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
  24.  
  25. If all the input tests prove OK, the control unit must be faulty; replace the power window master switch.

  27. Perform the power window control unit reset procedure.

Passenger-s & Rear Switches

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

Swap the back power window switch with another known-good switch and test. If the original back power window switch is faulty; replace it.

Rear Middle Switch

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

  1. Disconnect the 2P connector from the back power window position switch.
  2.  
  3. Check for continuity between the terminals.
  4.  
  5. There should be continuity between the No. 1 and No. 2 terminals when the back power window middle glass is opened.
  6.  
  7. There should not be continuity between the No. 1 and No. 2 terminals when the back power window is closed.
  8.  
  9. If the continuity is not as specified, replace the switch.
  10.  

Removal & Installation
Motor & Regulator
Rear Middle

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear seat assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the C-pillar trim, both sides.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear seat belt lower anchor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear seat side trim, both sides.
  10.  
  11. Remove the subwoofer, if equipped.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear panel insulator.
  14.  
  15. Remove the remove the rear window middle glass mounting bolts.

  17. Disconnect the connector (A) from the regulator motor (B).
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolts (C, D), and detach the cable clips (E), then remove the regulator (F) and motor.

To install:

  1. Install the regulator in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

  3. Apply multipurpose grease to the sliding surfaces of the regulator as shown.

  5. Slide the glass right and left to see if it moves freely without binding.
  6.  
  7. Make sure the connector is plugged in properly.
  8.  

Front Door

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door panel.

  5. Remove the plastic cover (A).
    1. Detach the harness clip (B) and remove the caps (C).
    2.  
    3. Slide the inner handle cable (D), the lock knob (E) and the harness (F) in through the hole in the plastic cover.

  7. Carefully raise the glass until you can see the bolts, then remove them. Carefully pull the glass out through the window slot. Take care not to drop the glass inside the door.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the connector (A) from the regulator (B).
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts (C), and loosen the bolts (D), then remove the regulator through the hole in the door.

To install:

  1. Install the glass and regulator in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

  3. Apply multipurpose grease to the sliding surfaces of the regulator.

  5. Roll the glass up and down to see if it moves freely without binding.
  6.  
  7. Make sure that there is no clearance between the glass and glass run channel when the glass is closed.
  8.  
  9. Adjust the position of the glass as necessary.
  10.  
  11. Perform the power window control unit reset procedure.
  12.  
  13. Check for water leaks.
  14.  
  15. Test-drive, and check for wind noise and rattles.
  16.  
  17. When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water.
  18.  
  19. Make sure the power door locks, windows, and power mirror operate properly.
  20.  

Rear Door

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door panel.

  5. Remove the rear glass outer molding.

  7. Remove the plastic cover (A).
    1. Remove the caps (B).
    2.  
    3. Remove the screws, then remove the panel bracket (C).
    4.  
    5. Slide the inner handle cable (D), lock knob (E), courtesy light bulb socket (F) and the harness (G) in through the hole in the plastic cover.
    6.  
    7. Remove the plastic cover.

  9. Pull the glass run channel (A) away as needed, and remove the bolt, then remove the center lower channel (B) by pulling it downward.

  11. Carefully move the glass until you can see the bolts, then remove them. Carefully lower the glass. Take care not to drop the glass inside the door.
  12.  
  13. Rotate the glass as shown, and carefully remove the glass out through the window opening. Take care not to drop the glass inside the door.

  15. Disconnect the connector (A) from the regulator (B).
  16.  
  17. Remove the bolts (C), and loosen the bolts (D), then remove the regulator through the hole in the door.

To install:

  1. Install the glass and regulator in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

Switch
Driver-s Side Master Switch

Specific to:

Honda Ridgeline 2006-2008


NOTE
This procedure requires the use of the following special tools, or their equivalents: KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 and Trim pad remover, Snap-on A 177A.


NOTE
Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.


WARNING
Take care not to scratch the door and related parts.

  1. Remove the mirror mount cover, as follows:
    1. Lower the door glass fully.
    2.  
    3. With your hand, carefully release the clip, lift the cover upward to release the hooks (A), and remove the cover (B) in the sequence shown.

  3. Pull back the inner handle knob (A). Using a trim tool, push on the lower hook (B) and pivot the cover (C) on the upper hooks (D), then remove the cover.

  5. Remove the screws, then remove the inner handle (A), and disconnect the inner handle cable (B).

  7. Remove the screw from under the pull pocket lid.
    WARNING
    To avoid damaging components inside the door, do not use excessive force when lifting up on the panel.

  8.  
  9. Remove the door panel (A) with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it, as follows:
    1. Remove the screws (B).
    2.  
    3. Use a commercially available trim pad removal to detach the clips (C).
    4.  
    5. Starting at the rear, pull the door panel upward, then release the lock knob (D).

  11. Disconnect the courtesy light sub-harness connector (A), power mirror switch connector (B) (driver's), power window switch connector (C), and power rear window switch connector (D) (driver's).

  13. Remove the four mounting screws, then remove the master switch (A) from the switch panel (B).

To install:

  1. Install the master switch and secure with the four mounting screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the door lock motor and secure with the retainers.
  4.  
  5. Install the door panel in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    1. Check if the clips is damaged or stress-whitened, and if necessary, replace them with new ones.
    2.  
    3. Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the rod is connected securely.
    4.  
    5. Push the clips into place securely.
    6.  
    7. When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water
    8.  

  6.  
  7. Perform the power window control unit reset procedure.
  8.  

Passenger-s Side And Rear Switches

  3. Remove the door panel.
