REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

CRV and 4-Cylinder Odyssey models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. If the distributor cap is to be replaced, mark the ignition wires for identification and remove them from the distributor cap.
  4.
  5. Remove the two rear air filter housing bolts using a 10mm socket, extension and ratchet, and move the housing to the left to allow enough clearance to remove the distributor cap.
  6.
  7. Completely loosen the distributor cap mounting fasteners using an 8mm socket, extension and ratchet or a Phillips screwdriver.
  8.
  9. Carefully remove the distributor cap taking care not to damage the cap seal and set aside.
  10.
  11. Locate the threaded fastener that secures the ignition rotor to the shaft of the distributor, which is positioned opposite the rotor contact on the lower portion of the rotor, and remove the fastener.
  12.
  13. Carefully lift the rotor off the distributor shaft.
  14.

Inspect the distributor cap to housing seal for damage and/or cracks.

  2.
  3. Position the distributor cap seal on the distributor housing and position the distributor cap on the housing.
  4.
  5. Install the distributor cap by tightening the mounting fasteners in a crisscross pattern. Use care to not over-tighten the fasteners.
  6.
  7. Reconnect the spark plug wires, making sure to install them exactly in the same position from which they were removed.
  8.
  9. Reconnect the negative battery cable and enter the radio security code.
  10.

INSPECTION

CRV and 4-Cylinder Odyssey Models
  1. Inspect the distributor cap for cracks and burned or worn electrodes. Inspect the center contact of the cap to make sure it will make a good connection with the rotor once installed. Replace the cap if it is cracked, or the contacts appear grooved, or if the center contact is worn.
  2.
  3. Inspect the rotor for cracks and a worn or burned electrode. Replace the rotor if the contact surface is eroded or uneven.
  4.
  5. Prior to reinstalling the distributor cap and rotor, thoroughly clean them with an electrical contact cleaner.
  6.

WARNING
Because the distributor cap and rotor transmit a high-energy ignition voltage, avoid using any type of solvent, spray or lubricate on the inside or outside of the cap or on the rotor. When cleaning them, use only an electrical contact cleaner intended specifically for electrical circuits.
