Disarming the System

2000-02 Models



  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK , remove the key, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the AIR BAG or SIR fuse from the fuse block.
  6.  
  7. Remove the steering column filler panel or knee bolster.
  8.  
  9. Unplug the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and yellow two way connector at the base of the steering column.
  10.  
  11. Open the glove compartment door, lift the stop and let the door fully open.
  12.  
  13. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from the passenger yellow two way connector located behind the glove box.
  14.  
  15. Unplug the yellow two way connector located behind the glove box.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE
    With the AIR BAG fuse removed, the battery cable connected and the ignition in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning lamp will be ON. This is normal and does not indicate a system malfunction.

2003-05 Models



  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK , remove the key, then disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the SIR fuse from the fuse block located in the underhood fuse block.
  6.  
  7. Remove the grille.
  8.  
  9. Remove Front End Sensor bracket from the bumper.
    NOTE
    These vehicles are equipped with two inflatable restraint Electronic Frontal Sensors (EFS). When performing this procedure be sure to include both EFS's.

  10.  
  11. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from both electronic frontal sensor (EFS) connectors.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect both EFS connectors.
