On most rear axles, the identification number is stamped on the right-front side of the axle tube, next to the differential. On front axles, the ID number is either stamped on a tag, attached to the differential cover by a cover bolt or is stamped, on the top of the carrier case along the edge of the machined face of the left half.
There are a number of different transfer cases used on these models.
All transfer cases are equipped with an identification tag which is attached to the rear half of the case; the tag gives the model number, the low range reduction ratio and the assembly part number. If for some reason it becomes dislodged or removed, reattach it with an adhesive sealant.
