Air Mix /Mode Actuator (Blend Door)

Removal & Installation



Blazer, Jimmy, Xtreme & Bravada

The mode actuator is located on the top left side of the HVAC module.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the knee bolster.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right side driver knee bolster bracket from the steering column bracket and the intermediate bracket.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the vacuum connectors from the mode actuator.
  8.  
  9. Remove the actuator rod retaining clip.
  10.  
  11. Remove the actuator rod from the mode door lever.
  12.  
  13. Firmly pull on the mode actuator in order to remove the actuator from the HVAC module.

To install:

  1. Install the mode actuator. Ensure that the retaining tabs lock into place.
  2.  
  3. Install the actuator rod to the mode door lever.
  4.  
  5. Install the actuator rod retaining clip.
  6.  
  7. Connect the vacuum connectors to the mode actuator.
  8.  
  9. Install the right side driver knee bolster bracket to the steering column bracket and the intermediate bracket.
  10.  
  11. Tighten the knee bolster bracket mounting nuts to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm). Tighten the intermediate bracket mounting bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

  13. Install the knee bolster.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  

Envoy, Trailblazer & Rainier
  1. Remove the floor console.
  2.  
  3. Rotate the console.
  4.  
  5. Remove the screw from the air outlet duct.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air outlet duct from the floor console.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear mode actuator retaining screws.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the rear mode actuator.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the mode actuator.
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the screws to the mode actuator. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the air outlet duct to the console.
  8.  
  9. Install the screw to the air outlet duct. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the console.
  12.
