Multi-Function (Combination) Switch

Removal & Installataion



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disable the airbag system, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  4.  
  5. Ensure the turn signal lever on the multifunction switch is in the neutral position or the OFF position.
  6.  
  7. Remove the knee bolster.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the steering column bracket nuts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the steering column upper and lower trim covers.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 wire harness straps from the steering column wire harness.
  14.  
  15. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer from the auto trans shift lock control.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the steering column bulkhead connector from the vehicle wire harness.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the gray and the black connectors of the switch from the column bulkhead connector.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 2 Torx® head screws from the multifunction switch.
  22.  
  23. Remove the multifunction turn signal/hazard switch.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Install the multifunction turn signal/hazard switch. Use a small blade screwdriver in order to compress the electrical contact. Move the multifunction switch into the position. Ensure the electrical contact rests on the canceling cam assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install the multifunction switch to steering column mounting screws and tighten to 53 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the connectors of the switch to the column bulkhead connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the steering column bulkhead connector to the vehicle wire harness.
  8.  
  9. Install the connector and the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer to the auto trans shift lock control.
  10.  
  11. Install the 2 wire straps on the steering column wire harness.
  12.  
  13. Tighten the steering column bracket nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the steering column upper and lower trim covers.
  16.  
  17. Install the knee bolster.
  18.  
  19. Ensure the lever is in the center or the OFF position.
  20.  
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Disable the airbag system, as outlined in the Chassis Electrical Section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper and lower trim covers.
    NOTE
    The abrasion sleeve located on the steering column wire harness assembly must be reinstalled. Make note of what connector is coming out of the abrasion sleeve for installation purposes.

  7. Remove the wire harness assembly from the wire harness strap.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly connector from the SIR system coil connector.
  10.  
  11. Slide the 2 connectors of the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly out of the bulkhead connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws from the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly from the steering column tilt head assembly.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly onto the steering column tilt head assembly.
    NOTE
    Be sure that the electrical contact of the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly rests on the turn signal cancel cam assembly.

  3. Screw the 2 pan head tapping screws into the turn signal and multifunction assembly.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the top pan head tapping screw to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm). Tighten the side pan head tapping screw to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Slide the 2 connectors of the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly into the bulkhead connector.
  8.  
  9. Connect the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly connector to the SIR coil connector.
    NOTE
    The abrasion sleeve must be installed back onto the steering column wire harness assembly. The ignition lock cylinder case wires and connector must be hanging out of the middle of the abrasion sleeve.

  10.  
  11. Install the wire harness assembly into the wire harness strap.
  12.  
  13. Install the upper and lower trim covers.
  14.  
  15. Enable the airbag system.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.
