Oil Pan

Removal & Installation



3.6L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine front cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the power steering hose retainer from the A/C compressor bracket.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft.
  12.  
  13. Remove the engine mount lower nuts.
  14.  
  15. Position the A/C compressor aside.
  16.  
  17. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipe retainer from the right side of the engine.
  18.  
  19. Install an engine lifting kit to raise the engine for clearance.
  20.  
  21. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the oil pan.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.
  2.  
  3. Trial fit the oil pan to the cylinder block. Ensure that enough clearance has been provided to allow the oil pan to be installed without sealant being scraped off when pan is positioned under the engine.
  4.  
  5. Apply a bead of silicone sealer to the oil pan flange as shown.

  7. Install the oil pan and loosely install the attaching bolts.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the bolts in sequence. Tighten bolts 1-11 to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm). Tighten bolts 11-12 to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

  11. Lower the engine to engage the engine mounts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the engine lift.
  14.  
  15. Install the transmission oil cooler pipe retainer to the right side of the engine.
  16.  
  17. Reposition the A/C compressor.
  18.  
  19. Install the engine mount lower nuts. Tighten the nuts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Connect the intermediate steering shaft.
  22.  
  23. Install the power steering hose retainer to the A/C compressor bracket.
  24.  
  25. Install the engine front cover.
  26.  
  27. Fill the engine with oil.
  28.  
  29. Connect the negative battery cable.
  30.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine front cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the power steering hose retainer from the A/C compressor bracket.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft.
  12.  
  13. Remove the engine mount lower nuts.
  14.  
  15. Position the A/C compressor aside.
  16.  
  17. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipe retainer from the right side of the engine.
  18.  
  19. Install an engine lifting kit to raise the engine for clearance.
  20.  
  21. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the oil pan.

To install:

  11. Lower the engine to engage the engine mounts.

  13. Remove the engine lift.
  14.  
  15. Install the transmission oil cooler pipe retainer to the right side of the engine.

  17. Reposition the A/C compressor.
  18.  
  19. Install the engine mount lower nuts. Tighten the nuts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
  20.  
  21. Connect the intermediate steering shaft.
  22.  
  23. Install the power steering hose retainer to the A/C compressor bracket.
  24.  
  25. Install the engine front cover.
  26.  
  27. Fill the engine with oil.
  28.  
  29. Connect the negative battery cable.
  30.  

4.6L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine from the vehicle and place on an engine stand.
  4.  
  5. Rotate the engine so the oil pan is up.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine oil level sensor from the oil pan.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the oil pan.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.
  2.  
  3. Install a new oil pan gasket.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pan so it is flush within 0.020 inch (0.50mm) forward of the rear face of the block.
  6.  
  7. Install the oil pan and loosely install the attaching bolts.
  8.  
  9. Tighten the bolts in sequence as shown to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the oil level sensor.
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Remove the engine from the vehicle and place on an engine stand.

  5. Rotate the engine so the oil pan is up.

  7. Remove the engine oil level sensor from the oil pan.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the oil pan.
