Oil Pump

There are no serviceable components within the oil pump. Disassemble the pump only to diagnose an oiling concern. A disassembled oil pump must not be reused. A disassembled oil pump must be replaced.

Removal & Installation



3.6L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove the primary timing chain.
  8.  
  9. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pump attaching bolts. Slide the oil pump from the crankshaft.
  12.

  1. Install the oil pump so the rotor aligns with the crankshaft flats.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the oil pump retaining bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the crankshaft sprocket.
  6.  
  7. Install the primary timing chain.
  8.  
  9. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE
    Check for proper engine oil pressure immediately after starting the engine. If engine oil pressure is not within specification a few seconds after starting the engine, stop the engine and determine the reason for the low oil pressure condition. Running an engine with low oil pressure may result in serious engine damage.

  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.

4.6L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine front cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil pump attaching bolts. Slide the oil pump from the crankshaft.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the oil pump drive spacer so the drive flat engages the pump rotor.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the oil pump retaining bolts and tighten in sequence to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm), plus an additional 35°.
  4.  
  5. Install the engine front cover.
  6.  
  7. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
    NOTE
    Check for proper engine oil pressure immediately after starting the engine. If engine oil pressure is not within specification a few seconds after starting the engine, stop the engine and determine the reason for the low oil pressure condition.   1. Install the oil pump drive spacer so the drive flat engages the pump rotor.
  2.  
  3. Tighten the oil pump retaining bolts and tighten in sequence to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm), plus an additional 35°.

  5. Install the engine front cover.
  6.  
  7. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
