Oil Pressure Sensor

Removal & Installation



3.6L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Turn the ignition OFF .
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pressure sensor.

To install:

  1. Install the oil pressure sensor and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.

4.6L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the oil filter adapter.
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pressure sensor and/or switch from the oil filter adapter.
  6.  
  7. Clean and inspect the oil filter adapter.

To install:

  1. Install a new O-ring on the oil pressure switch.
  2.  
  3. Install the oil pressure switch to the oil filter adapter and tighten to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the oil filter adapter.
  6.

  1. Ignition OFF , disconnect the harness connector of the sensor.
  2.  
  3. Test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the low reference circuit and ground. If greater than 1 ohm, test the low reference circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
    1. On 3.6L engines, terminal A is low reference, terminal B is 5 volt reference and terminal C is signal.

    3. On 4.6L engines, terminal A is low reference, terminal B is signal and terminal C is 5 volt reference.

  5. Ignition ON , test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5 volt reference circuit and ground. If less than 4.8 volts, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. If greater than 5.2 volts, test the 5 volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.

  7. Verify the scan tool Engine Oil Pressure Sensor parameter is greater than 127 psi (880 kPa). If less than this, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the ECM.
  8.  
  9. Install a 3 amp fused jumper between the signal circuit and the low reference circuit. Verify the scan tool Engine Oil Pressure Sensor parameter is less than 1.1 psi (8 kPa). If greater than this, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.

  11. Ignition ON , command the indicators off with the scan tool. If the indicator does not turn off, replace the cluster assembly.

  13. If all circuits test normal, replace the sensor.
