2000-2002 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the top engine cover.
  6.  
  7. Undo the coolant expansion tank cap to release any pressure and then retighten it.
  8.  
  9. Undo the connector to the pressure/temperature sensor. Remove the turbo delivery pipe complete with bypass pipe and bypass valve.
  10.  
  11. If equipped with M/T, remove the venturi hose from the charge air pipe.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cover on the throttle body pedal arm.
  14.  
  15. Detach the hose for the bypass valve.
  16.  
  17. Detach the accelerator pedal wire from the throttle body pedal arm.
  18.  
  19. Remove the rubber seal and undo the limp-home solenoid connector.
  20.  
  21. Unplug the throttle body 10-pin connector.
  22.  
  23. Undo the 3 throttle body retaining screws.
  24.  
  25. Lift up the throttle body, clamp and detach the 2 coolant hoses to the throttle body and detach the hose under the limp-home solenoid.

  27. Detach the lower vacuum hose and remove throttle body.
  28.  

To install:

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Start the engine and make sure all the connections are tight. Top up with coolant as necessary.
  4.  

2003-2006 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine protection cover.

  7. Pull off the cable set connector (1) from the heat film mass airflow sensor. Remove the intake manifold together with the heat film mass airflow sensor.
  8.  
  9. Pull off the throttle connection cable set connector (5).
  10.  
  11. Pull off the crankcase ventilation hose (1) and the tank vent valve line (2) from the throttle valve connection.
  12.  
  13. Remove the coolant hoses (3) from the throttle valve connection - collect the coolant.
  14.  
  15. Remove the retaining bolts (4) and remove the throttle valve connection from the intake manifold.
  16.  

To install:

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Fill and bleed the cooling system the engine and make sure all the connections are tight. Top up with coolant as necessary.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine protection cover.
  6.  
  7. Undo the coolant expansion tank cap to release any pressure and then retighten it.
  8.  
  9. Remove the cover on the throttle body pedal arm.
  10.  
  11. Pinch together the 2 coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  12.  
  13. Undo the charge air bypass valve hose and the two preheating hoses.
  14.  
  15. Detach the lower vacuum hose.
  16.  
  17. Undo the turbocharger delivery pipe retaining screw in the cylinder head.
  18.  
  19. Undo the hose clip and carefully tilt up the turbocharger delivery pipe.
  20.  
  21. Detach the accelerator pedal wire from the throttle body pedal arm.
  22.  
  23. Lift off the rubber seal and unplug the limp-home solenoid connector.
  24.  
  25. Unplug the throttle body 10-pin connector.
  26.  
  27. Undo the 3 throttle body retaining screws.
  28.  
  29. Lift up the throttle body and detach the hose under the limp-home solenoid.
  30.  

To install:

  1. Position the throttle body and screw it on with the 3 retaining screws. Fit a new seal if necessary and lubricate it with a thin coat of vaseline (part no. 30 20 271).
  2.  
  3. Fit the hose under the limp home solenoid and fit the clip.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the 3 throttle body retaining screws.
  6.  
  7. Spray the throttle body 10-pin connector with Kontakt 61 (part no. 30 04 520) and plug it in.
  8.  
  9. Spray the limp-home solenoid connector with Kontakt 61 (part no. 30 04 520). Plug in the connector and fit the rubber seal.
  10.  
  11. Fasten the accelerator pedal wire to the throttle body pedal arm.
  12.  
  13. Fit the lower vacuum hose.
  14.  
  15. Fit the charge air bypass valve hose and the two preheating hoses.
  16.  
  17. Remove the clips on the two coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  18.  
  19. Fit the cover on the throttle body pedal arm.
  20.  
  21. Start the engine and make sure all the connections are tight. Top up with coolant as necessary.
  22.  
  23. Refit the engine cover.
    NOTE
    The limp-home solenoid will be activated when the ignition is turned on. The limp-home mechanism must therefore be reset after turning on the ignition.
