Diagnosis & Testing
  1. If all windows are in-operable, check the condition of the battery.
  2.
  3. Check the wiring harness, connectors and ground connections.
  4.
  5. Measure voltage to check for open circuits by performing the following:

    Engage the load

Set the multi-meter to voltage measurement and connect its minus cable to a good grounding point

Connect the voltmeter positive cable to the point where the voltage is to be tested

On the output side of a switch/control module, it is best to start there and then gradually move out towards the load

The break point in the circuit has been passed when the voltage disappears

On the input side of a switch/control module/consumer, it is best to start at the closest point to the power source (often the fuse) and then gradually move towards the switch/control module/consumer

The break point in the circuit has been passed when the voltage disappears

  6.
  7. Measure resistance to check for open circuits by performing the following:

Make sure the component or lead being tested is not carrying a current (e.g. by removing the associated fuse)

Set the multi-meter to resistance measurement and connect it across the component/lead being tested

Move the wiring harness in question while observing the ohmmeter

The resistance of the wiring harness should normally be less than 1 ohm. A specified value applies to components

  8.
  9. Check for short circuits to ground by performing the following:

Make sure the lead being tested is not carrying a current (e.g. by removing the associated fuse) and that any load has been disengaged

Set the multi-meter to resistance measurement

Connect one test cable to a good ground and the other to the point to be tested

Carefully move the wiring harness and make sure the multi-meter shows infinite resistance (OL) the whole time

  10.
  11. Check components connectivity and functionality. Replace components as necessary.
  12.

9-3 (2000-2002)

Front Windows

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Remove the door trim.
  4.
  5. Remove the plastic water barrier.
  6.
  7. Lower the window lift approximately 10 cm until the glass mounting is visible in the upper door holes.
  8.
  9. Fasten the glass in the frame with 2 strips of tape.
  10.
  11. Detach the scissor-lift stay from the window mounting by removing the clips and then prying the stay away from the sliding rollers with a large flat chisel. Pry the top edge between the stay and the rail.
  12.
  13. Drill out the blind rivet heads (4 pieces) and knock them out of the door (8.5 mm drill bit, 4 mm drift).
  14.
  15. Run the window lift motor so that the scissor-lift takes up as little space as possible.
  16.
  17. Unplug the connector for the window lift motor.
  18.
  19. Remove the scissor-lift guide channel, fastened with 2 nuts.
  20.
  21. Lift out the window lift assembly.
  22.
  23. Remove the 3 retainer screws that secures the motor to the window lift.
  24.
  25. If one of the retainer screws should be hidden by the scissor-lift gear wheel and the motor is not functioning, it is possible to turn the gear wheel with the motor's rotor
    NOTE
Do not remove the motor unless you are certain it is not functioning properly.

  26.
  27. First dismantle the stator, fastened with four screws, to access the rotor. Then turn the rotor while pressing on the gear wheel until the retainer screw is accessible.
  28.
  29. Remove the motor.
  30.

To install:

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2.
  3. Work is facilitated if heavy pop-riveting pliers are used. Adjust the position of the window glass as follows:

Raise the window to approximately a half inch from the closed position

Press the window glass rearwards in the frame

Check that the top edge of the window is parallel with the frame

  4.

Rear Windows

NOTE
The motor and regulator are an integrated unit. They cannot be replaced separately.

  1. Remove door trim, rear and the plastic water barrier.
  2.
  3. Remove the external window seal by first releasing the clip at the rear with suitable pliers and pull it out by hand, there is also a clip at the front edge.
  4.
  5. Loosen the retainer screw for the rear guide channel.
  6.
  7. Run down the window glass approximately 10 cm so that the window mount is visible in the upper holes on the inside of the door.
  8.
  9. Fasten the glass on top of the frame with tape, use 2 strips of tape.
  10.
  11. Disconnect the connector for the window lift motor.
  12.
  13. Drill out the blind-rivet heads.
  14.
  15. Knock the rivets out of the door. Hold the window lift.
  16.
  17. Guide out the window regulator with motor from the window mount by pulling it rearwards in the door, fold it down and lift it out of the door.
  18.
  19. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  20.

9-5

  4.
  5. Lower the window lift so that the mounting is visible at the top of the lower large hole. The clips on the rollers are then easily accessible.
  6.
  7. Detach the scissor-lift braces from the window mounting by removing the clips and then prying loose the braces from the rollers with a large flat chisel. Pry between the brace and the rail and close to the ball so the rail is not deformed.
  8.
  9. Secure the window to the window frame with 2 strips of tape.
  10.
  11. Knock out the steel cores in the blind rivets (6).
  12.
