Removal & Installation

CAUTION
Some models covered by this manual may be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in Section 6.

2000-2002 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Pull out the steering column adjustment as far as possible.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect or remove the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Airbag module by undoing the retaining screws on the back of the steering wheel and unplugging the connector
     
    Horn connector
     
    Turn the steering wheel so that the wheels are directed straight forward. Undo the steering shaft nut, but not completely
     
    Steering wheel by rocking it from side to side, remove the connectors and unscrew the steering shaft nut
     
    Top and bottom cover of the steering column joint by unscrewing the retaining screws
     
    Steering column controls by pressing in the two clips on each mounting and pulling straight out. Unplug the connectors
     
    Data link connector. It is located on the bottom of the lower dashboard panel
     
    Lower panel retaining screws and the expansion rivets at the front. The expansion rivets are removed by first pushing the center further into the rivet
     
    Radio unit by inserting the -forks- and pulling it out. Unplug the antenna and the connectors
     
    Storage compartment if fitted
     
    Radio insert cartridge with a screwdriver
     
    SID unit using draw-in bolts (M3) and unplug the connector
     
    Light switch and the switch for the headlamp beam adjustment
     
    Instrument panel retaining screws
     
    Top of the instrument panel. Make sure the snap fasteners on the sides are free. Lift out the plate
     
    Connectors

  7. To install, reverse removal procedure.

2003-2006 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect or remove the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Left-hand and center air vent from the instrument panel by carefully bending the hooks that are accessible through the grille
     
    -Infotainment control panel- (ICM)
     
    SID unit control panel (SIDC) by pressing together the two tabs on the back and then pressing out the control panel from behind, starting at the top
     
    Instrument panel
     
    Main instrument unit and the connectors for the main instrument unit

  5. To install, reverse removal procedure.
