Removal & Installation



Refer to the shock absorber removal and installation procedure for the rear coil spring.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle and safely support it on jackstands. Do not place the stands under the rear axle assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheels
     

  6.  
  7. Place a floor jack under the lower control arm and raise it upward slightly.
    NOTE
    If the same spring is to be reinstalled, mark the rear of the spring to be sure it is reinstalled in the proper position.

  8.  
  9. Remove the lower mounting bolt from the shock absorber
  10.  
  11. Slowly lower the floor jack until the lower arm is relaxed.
  12.  
  13. Use a pry bar to bring the lower arm down far enough to remove the spring.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Spring with rubber cushions
     
    Lower shock mount and torque to 46 ft. lbs. (62 Nm)
     
    Rear Wheels

  3. Lower the vehicle and road test.
  4.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the vehicle and safely support it on jackstands. Do not place the stands under the rear axle assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the spring from the brake caliper.
  8.  
  9. Remove the protective covers.
  10.  
  11. Remove and move aside the hydraulic body.
  12.  
  13. Remove the outer brake pad.
  14.  
  15. Compress the spring and lift out the spring. Remove the spring from the compression tool.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Compress the spring and place the spring support in the spring.
  2.  
  3. Lift the spring into position. Remove the spring compressor.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner brake pad and screw in the brake piston.
  6.  
  7. Fit the brake pads.
  8.  
  9. Make sure the springs on the inner pad rest in the piston groove.
  10.  
  11. Fit the hydraulic body. Torque the bolts to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Install the protective covers.
  14.  
  15. Fit the spring to the brake caliper.
  16.  
  17. Install the rear wheel.
  18.  
  19. Depress the brake pedal several times to press out the self adjustment of the brake pistons and the parking brake.
  20.  

Refer to the shock absorber removal and installation procedure for the rear coil spring.
