Adjustment



The wheel bearings found in all Saab vehicles are sealed units requiring no adjustment.

Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the car and remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Press the brake pistons back using a pair of slip joint pliers.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect or remove the following:

    Two brake unit retaining bolts. It may be necessary to undo the pipe connection. Suspend the brake caliper with a cable tie
     
    Back off the adjusting screw for the brake shoes
     
    Lever return spring
     
    Handbrake cable from the lever
     
    Brake disc retaining bolts (7). Remove the brake disc
     
    Connector from the speed sensor
     
    Wheel hub's four (9) retaining nuts
     
    Wheel hub (10), back plate and spacer. Separate the wheel hub from the back plate
     

  8.  

To install:

  1. Clean the contact surfaces using a wire brush.
  2.  
  3. Connect or install the following:

    Back plate on the wheel hub and spacer, install new wheel-hub nuts. Tighten to: 37 ft. lbs. plus 30° (50 Nm)
     
    Brake disc on the hub and fit the locking screw, securing it with Loctite or other thread-locking compound
     
    Handbrake cable to the lever
     
    Return spring on the lever and plug in the speed sensor connector
     
    Brake caliper and fit the retaining bolts, securing them with Loctite or other thread-locking compound
     

  4.  
  5. Brake caliper and fit the retaining bolts, securing them with Loctite or other thread-locking compound
  6.  
  7. Back off the adjusting nut until the brake disc is just free to rotate.
  8.  
  9. Lower the car and install wheel.
  10.  

Refer to Wheel Hub in front suspension for removal and installation.
