The fuel injection system, described in detail in Fuel System , operates in conjunction with the ignition system to obtain optimum performance and fuel economy, along with a minimum of exhaust emissions. The various sensors described below are used by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for feedback to determine and regulate proper engine operating conditions.

Although many of the following tests may be conducted using a Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM), certain steps or procedures may require the use of a specialized Saturn tester known as a Portable Diagnostic Tool (PDT), or an equivalent scan/testing tool. If these testers are not available, the vehicle should be taken to a reputable service station which has the appropriate equipment.
