  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Carefully remove the center air outlet/trim panel by pulling outward at the clip locations. Start at the bottom and work upward to the top clips. Do not use instruments which might damage the trim panel.
  4.
  5. Remove the 2 radio retaining screws located at the top of the unit, then carefully pull the radio forward and out of the dashboard. Unplug the radio electrical connector and the antenna, then remove the radio from the vehicle.
  6.
  7. Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) device from the blower motor switch, then unplug the wiring harness.
  8.
  9. Release the temperature and mode cable hold-down/adjustment clips.
  10.
  11. Remove the HVAC control panel screws, then carefully pull the panel forward, just enough for access.
  12.
  13. Disconnect both cables from the control panel (black mode cable first, followed by the blue temperature cable) by squeezing the controller pin and lifting the cable straight upward and off the pin.
  14.

The pin for the temperature cable may be easier to access if the lever is moved to the full COLD position.

  1. Slide the HVAC control panel further out from the dashboard and release the lock on the 6-way connector, then unplug the wiring harness from the panel and remove the panel from the dashboard.
  2.

To install:
  1. Position the HVAC control panel to the dashboard and install the retaining screws.
  2.
  3. Install the blue temperature and black mode cables over the pins.
  4.
  5. Position the temperature lever to the full COLD position and the mode lever to the full VENT position (both levers to the LEFT).
  6.
  7. Align the cables in the hold-down/adjustment clip grooves, then push the clips over the cables and lock them into position.
  8.
  9. Check the mode and temperature levers for full and easy travel. Adjust as necessary by pushing the lever to the end that springs back, then, while holding the lever, lift up on the clip and allow the cable to adjust. When the cable is adjusted, push the clip downward to lock the cable in place.
  10.
  11. Connect the wiring harnesses to the control panel and the blower motor switch. Make sure the wires do not interfere with control lever movement, then install the CPA devices to the connectors.
  12.
  13. Install the radio antenna and electrical connector, then position the radio to the dashboard. Secure the radio using the 2 screws.
  14.
  15. Install the center air outlet/trim panel by pushing inward at the clip locations.
  16.
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.

1995-98 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Remove the radio/HVAC controller cover by depressing the center pins inward to release the push pin fasteners. Be careful not to push the center pins all the way through the fasteners.
  4.
  5. Remove the push pin fasteners and pull the radio/HVAC controller cover rearward.
  6.
  7. If equipped, disengage the traction control/fog lamps/rear defogger electrical connector.
  8.
  9. Remove the radio. Refer to the Radio removal and installation procedure, later in this section.
  10.
  11. Disengage the electrical connectors behind the controller face. Remove the wiring harness clip from the module boss.
  12.
  13. Disengage the temperature and mode cables from the controller assembly by squeezing the lock tabs together while pulling the cable housing straight up. Pull the cables straight up to disengage them from the control lever pins.
  14.
  15. Remove the HVAC control panel screws, then carefully pull the panel forward and remove it from the vehicle.
  16.

To install:
  1. Position the HVAC control panel to the dashboard and install the retaining screws. Tighten the retaining screws to 22 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).
  2.
  3. Install the white temperature and black mode cables over the pins.
  4.
  5. Install the cable housings into the clip grooves, then push down to lock them into position.
  6.
  7. Reattach the electrical connectors to the back of the control panel face. Install the wiring harness clip to the module boss. Be sure that the wiring harness does not bind with control lever movement.
  8.
  9. Install the radio.
  10.
  11. If equipped, reattach the traction control/fog lamps/rear defogger electrical connectors.
  12.
  13. Install the radio/HVAC controller cover by pushing in at the clip locations.
  14.
  15. Install and lock the push pin fasteners.
  16.
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.
