Saturn Coupes/Sedans/Wagons 1991-1998 Repair Guide

Relieving Fuel System Pressure

Print

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Unless battery voltage is necessary for testing, disconnect the negative battery cable. This will prevent the fuel pump from running and causing a fuel spill through the disconnected components, if the ignition switch is accidentally turned ON .
  2.
  3. Remove the air intake tube and resonator.
  4.
  5. Wrap a shop rag around the fuel test port fitting, located at the lower rear of the engine, then remove the cap and connect the fuel pressure gauge tool SA9127E or equivalent.
  6.
  7. Install the bleed hose from the pressure gauge into an approved container and open the valve to bleed the system pressure.
  8.
  9. After the pressure is bled, remove the gauge from the test port and recap it.
  10.
  11. Install the air intake duct and resonator tube.
  12.
  13. After repairs, connect the negative battery cable and prime the fuel system as follows:
  14.

  1. Turn the ignition ON for 5 seconds, then OFF for 10 seconds.
  2.
  3. Repeat the ON/OFF cycle 2 more times.
  4.
  5. Crank the engine until it starts. If the engine does not readily start, repeat Steps a through c.
  6.
  7. Run the engine and check for leaks.
  8.
