Oil Pan

Removal & Installation



1.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine/transaxle assembly.
  6.  
  7. Separate the transaxle from the engine assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove or disconnect from the engine unit:

    Front cover
     
    Timing chain
     
    Oil filter
     

  10.  
  11. Using Special Tool 09032-00100, cut the sealer between the upper and lower oil pans.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lower oil pan.

  15. Remove the oil strainer and gasket.
  16.  
  17. Remove the mounting mount for the upper oil pan.
  18.  
  19. Using a suitable prying tool, pry the upper oil pan from the cylinder block.
    WARNING
    Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the oil and cylinder block.

To install:

  1. Clean the contact surfaces of all old sealant.
  2.  
  3. Apply a continuous line of sealant to the upper oil pan mating surfaces shown.

  5. Install the upper oil pan and tighten the mounting bolts in sequence to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm). Each bolt length is as follows:
    1. Bolt A: 1.93 in. (49 mm)
    2.  
    3. Bolt B: 3.47 in. (88 mm)
    4.  
    5. Bolt C: 5.67 in. (144 mm)

  7. Install the oil strainer. Tighten to 8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm).

  9. Apply new sealant to the lower oil pan contact surfaces.
  10.  
  11. Install the lower pan and tighten the bolts and nuts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
    NOTE
    Do not expose the sealant to engine oil for at least 2 hours after installation.

  13. Install or connect the following:

    Oil filter
     
    Timing chain
     
    Front cover
     
    Engine/Transaxle assembly
     

  14.  
  15. Refill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  16.  
  17. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  18.  

2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine assembly from the vehicle and secure to a suitable chain block and sling device.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Using Special Tool 09032-00100, cut off the sealant between the front cover, cylinder block and oil pan.
  10.  
  11. Remove the oil pan.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Remove any old sealant from the oil pan.
  2.  
  3. Apply a continuous bead of sealant to the contact surfaces of the oil pan.
    NOTE
    Do not expose the sealant to engine oil for at least 2 hours after installation.

  4.  
  5. Install the oil pan. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).

  7. Install the engine assembly.
  8.  
  9. Fill the engine with oil to the correct level.
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for leaks.
