Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the transaxle fluid.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Hub nut
     
    Wheel speed sensor
     
    Front stabilizer bar
     
    Lower control arm
     
    Tie rod end
     

  6.  
  7. Using Special Tool 09520-01010, tap out the left halfshaft.

  9. Remove the right halfshaft as follows:
    1. xA and xB: Using a brass bar and hammer, tap out the right halfshaft.
    2.  
    3. tC: Remove the two mounting bolts and remove the halfshaft from the transaxle.

To install:

  1. Coat the splines of the inboard joint shaft with gear oil (M/T) or ATF (A/T).
  2.  
  3. Align the shaft splines and tap in the left halfshaft with a brass bar and hammer.
  4.  
  5. Install the right halfshaft as follows:
    1. xA and xB: Align the shaft splines and tap in the halfshaft with a brass bar and hammer.
    2.  
    3. tC: Align the shaft splines and install the halfshaft to the transaxle. Tighten bolts to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm).

  7. Install or connect the following:

    Tie rod end. Tighten nut to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
     
    Lower control arm
     
    Front stabilizer arm. xA and xB: Tighten nut to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm). tC: Tighten nut to 55 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
     
    Wheel speed sensor
     
    New hub nut. Tighten to 159 ft. lbs. (216 Nm).
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Front wheel
     

  8.  
  9. Refill the transaxle with fluid to the correct level.
  10.  
  11. Check and adjust the alignment if necessary.
