Ignition Switch

Removal & Installation



TC
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 90 seconds before proceeding.
  2.  
  3. Remove the steering wheel and steering column switches, as outlined in this section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the ignition lock cylinder, as outlined in this section.
  6.  
  7. Remove the un-lock warning switch as follows:
    1. Separate the un-lock warning switch connector from the ignition or starter switch.
    2.  
    3. Remove the un-lock warning switch by pushing up on the center part and disengaging the 2 claws.
    4.  
    5. If equipped with a manual transaxle, remove the clamp from the steering column upper bracket assembly.
    6.  
    7. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, disengage the secondary locking device. Using a screwdriver, disengage the locking lug of terminals 3 and 4, and pull the terminals out from the un-lock warning switch connector rear side.

  9. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, remove the key interlock solenoid:
    1. Remove the 2 screws and key inter lock solenoid from the steering column upper bracket.
    2.

  11. Remove the 2 screws, then remove the ignition or starter switch from the steering column upper bracket.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the ignition or starter switch to the steering column upper bracket with the 2 screws.
  2.  
  3. If equipped with an automatic transaxle, install the key interlock solenoid to the steering column upper bracket with the 2 screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the un-lock warning switch, as follows:
    1. Install the un-lock warning switch.

    3. For automatic transaxles, connect terminals 3 and 4 of the un-lock warning switch connector.

    5. Connect the un-lock warning switch connector to the ignition or starter switch.

  7. For manual transaxles, secure the unlock warning switch wire harness to the steering column upper bracket with a new clamp as shown in the illustration.
    NOTE
    Do not overtighten the clamp when securing the wire harness as the wire harness could be cut.

    1. For automatic transaxles, secure the unlock warning switch wire harness to the steering column upper bracket as shown in the illustration.

  9. Install the ignition lock cylinder, steering column switches and steering wheel, as outlined in this section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 90 seconds before proceeding.

  3. Remove the steering wheel and steering column switches, as outlined in this section.

  5. Remove the ignition lock cylinder, as outlined in this section.
  6.  
  7. Remove the un-lock warning switch as follows:
    1. Disconnect the un-lock warning switch connector from the ignition or starter switch .
    2.  
    3. Remove the un-lock warning switch.
    4.  

  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 screws and the ignition or starter switch from the steering column bracket.

To install:

  1. Install the ignition or starter switch to the steering column bracket with the 2 screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the un-lock warning switch and attach the connector to the ignition or starter switch.
    WARNING
    When attaching the wire harness, do not tighten the clamp too much or you may damage the wire harness inside.

  4.  
  5. Using a new clamp, fix the wire harness of the unlock warning switch to the steering column bracket as shown in the illustration.

  7. Install the ignition lock cylinder, steering column switches and steering wheel, as outlined in this section.
