Power Window Initialization Procedure

NOTE
This procedure must be performed on tC models, anytime the negative battery cable is disconnected.

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON .
  2.  
  3. Halfway open the power window by pressing the power window switch.
  4.  
  5. Fully pull up the switch until the power window is fully closed and continue to hold the switch for approximately 1 second after the power window is fully closed.
  6.  
  7. Check that the AUTO UP/DOWN function operates normally. If the AUTO/DOWN function operates normally, reset operations are complete. If not normal, follow steps (5) to (7) below.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal for 10 seconds.
  10.  
  11. Connect the cable.
  12.  
  13. Perform steps (1) to (4) again. If the AUTO/DOWN function operates normally, reset operations are complete. If not normal, proceed to steps (8) to (11) below.
  14.  
  15. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  16.  
  17. Halfway open the power window by pressing the power window switch.
  18.  
  19. Fully pull up the switch until the power window is fully closed, and continue to hold the switch for approximately 12 seconds after the power window is fully closed.
  20.  
  21. Check that the AUTO UP/DOWN function operates normally.
  22.  

Removal & Installation
Motor & Regulator
Front

  1. Make sure the ignition switch if OFF , then disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait AT
  2.  
  3. Remove front door lower frame bracket garnish, using a prytool to detach the clip and claw
  4.  
  5. Remove assist grip cover by using a prytool to detach the 11 claws.
  6.  
  7. Remove front armrest upper base panel:
  8.  
  9. For the driver-s side, use a prytool to detach the clip and 4 claws, and remove the armrest base panel with the with the window regulator master switch. Detach the connector, then remove the 3 screws and remove the power window master switch from the armrest.
    WARNING
    Be careful when removing the screw as the master switch can fall and become damaged.

    1. For the passenger-s side, use a prytool to detach the clip and 5 claws, and remove the armrest base panel together with the power window regulator switch, detach the switch connector, then detach the 2 claws and remove the switch from the armrest.

  11. Remove front door trim, as follows:

  13. Prevent damage to the door panel by applying protective tape to the areas indicated by the arrows in the illustration.

    1. Remove the 2 screws.
    2.  
    3. Using a prytool, carefully detach the 9 clips.
    4.  
    5. Prepare to remove the door trim by holding at the locations shown by the arrows in the illustration.

    7. Horizontally pull out the door trim to detach the 4 clips.
      WARNING
      To prevent damage to the 2 pins, be sure to keep the door trim horizontal while removing it.

  15. Remove outer rear view mirror, as outlined in this section.
  16.  
  17. Remove front door belt molding.
  18.  
  19. If necessary, remove the front no. 1 speaker:
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2.  
    3. Using a drill with a diameter of less than 4 mm (0.16 in.), drill out the 3 rivet heads and remove the speaker.
      WARNING
      Do not drill the rivet at an angle as this will cause damage to the drill and drill hole. Line up the drill and rivet, and carefully drill out the rivet head. Be careful as the cut rivet will be very hot.

    4.  
    5. Even if the flange is taken off, continue drilling and push out the remaining fragments using the drill.
    6.  
    7. Using a vacuum cleaner, remove the rivet fragments and shavings from the inside of the door.
    8.

  21. Remove front door glass inner weatherstrip

  23. Remove front door inside handle:
    1. Using a prytool, detach the claw.
    2.  
    3. Move the inside handle in the direction indicated by the arrow mark in the illustration. This will release the claw and let you remove the inside handle.

    5. Disconnect the 2 cables from the inside handle.

  25. Remove front door service hole cover (a) w/ no. 2 speaker:
    1. Remove the screw and no. 2 speaker.
    2.  
    3. Remove the service hole cover.
      NOTE
      Remove the remaining tape on the door side.

    4.

  27. If equipped with side airbag system and curtain shield airbag system, perform the following:
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and the side airbag sensor through the service hole.
    2.

  29. Remove front door stiffener cushion no. 2 bolt and cushion, through the service hole.
  30.  
  31. Remove front door glass, as follows:
    NOTE
    Insert a cushion inside the door panel to prevent the glass from getting scratched.

    1. Temporarily install the power window switch.
    2.  
    3. Move the door glass until the 2 bolts appear in the service holes.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 bolts.
      WARNING
      Be careful when removing the bolts so the glass does not fall and break.

    6.  
    7. Remove the door glass in the direction indicated by the arrow marks in the illustration.
      WARNING
      Do not damage the glass.

    9. Remove the power window switch.

  33. Remove the front door window regulator assembly:
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2.  
    3. Loosen bolt a.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 5 bolts and regulator through the service hole.
      WARNING
      Be careful when removing the bolts as the window regulator may fall and become damaged.

    7. Remove bolt A.
    8.

  35. Remove power window regulator motor:
    1. Place matchmarks on the window regulator motor bracket and regulator gear.
    2.  
    3. Using a Torx® driver, remove the 3 screws and motor.

To install:

  1. Installation is, for the most part, the reverse of the removal procedure, with the following exceptions that require some additional steps:

  3. Install the power window regulator motor:
    1. Align the matchmarks. Keep them aligned until the window glass installation is complete.
    2.  
    3. Using a Torx® driver, install the motor with the 3 screws and tighten to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
    4.

  5. Install front door window regulator assembly:
    1. Apply mp grease to the sliding and rotating areas of the window regulator.
      NOTE
      Do not apply grease to the spring of the window regulator.

    2.  
    3. Loosely screw bolt a onto the window regulator.
    4.  
    5. Insert the window regulator into the door panel. Use bolt A to hang the window regulator on the door panel.
    6.  
    7. Install the window regulator with the 5 bolts and tighten Bolt A to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).

  7. Install front door glass:
    1. Install the glass run.
    2.  
    3. Insert the door glass into the door panel along the glass run in the reverse of the removal procedure.
    4.  
    5. Install the door glass to the window regulator with the 2 bolts and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
    6.

  9. If equipped with side airbag system and curtain shield airbag system, install the side airbag sensor:
    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      CAUTION
      After removing the cable, wait for at least 90 seconds before starting the operation.

    4.  
    5. Install the sensor with the 2 nuts and tighten to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
      WARNING
      If the side airbag sensor assembly lh has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case, bracket or connector, replace it with a new one. When installing the side airbag sensor assembly, be careful that the SRS wiring does not interfere with any other components and that it is not pinched between other parts.

    6.  
    7. Attach the connector to the sensor.
    8.  
    9. Check that there is no looseness in the installation parts of the sensor.
    10.  
    11. Connect the battery cable.
    12.  
    13. Inspect the SRS warning lamp.
    14.

  11. Install front no. 1 speaker assembly:
    1. Install the front speaker to the door.
    2.  
    3. Using an air riveter or hand riveter, install the front speaker with 3 new rivets.
      NOTE
      Do not pry the rivet with the riveter, as this will cause damage to the riveter and mandrel. Confirm that the rivets are seated properly against the speaker. Do not tilt the rivets are seated properly against the speaker. Do not leave any space between the rivet head and the speaker. Do not allow any space between the speaker and door. Firmly hold together the 2 items while installing the rivet.

    5. Attach the connector.

  13. Install the front door service hole cover and attach the connectors.
    NOTE
    When installing the service hole cover, pull out the links and connectors through the service hole cover. There should be no wrinkles or folds after attaching the service hole cover. After attaching the service hole cover, check that it is installed properly.

  15. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
  16.  
  17. Inspect that the SRS warning lamp blinks and then goes out when you turn the ignition ON
  18.  
  19. Initialize the power window regulator motor, as outlined in this section.
  20.

  1. Remove the front door lower frame bracket garnish, as follows:
    1. Using a suitable prytool, or taped screwdriver, disengage the clip and claw, and remove the garnish.

  3. Remove the front armrest upper base panel upper, as follows:
    1. Using a prytool or taped screwdriver, disengage the 12 claws and 2 clips, and remove the armrest base panel together with the switch.

    3. Detach the switch connector.
    4.  
    5. For the driver-s side, remove the 3 screws and the power window master switch from the armrest upper base panel.
      WARNING
      Be careful when removing the screw so the switch doesn-t fall and become damaged.

    7. For the passenger-s side, use a suitable prytool to disengage the 2 claws and remove the power window regulator switch.
      WARNING
      Be careful when disengaging the claws as the switch may fall and become damaged.

  5. Remove front door trim panel, as follows:
    1. Remove the screw and clip a as shown in the illustration.
    2.  
    3. Using a clip remover, disengage the 7 clips.
    4.  
    5. Remove the trim panel upward.
      NOTE
      In order to prevent the door panel from being damaged, use protective tape to cover the areas shown by arrows in the illustration.

    7. Using a prytool, carefully disengage the claws and remove the inner weatherstrip.

  7. Remove front door inside handle:
    1. Using a prytool, carefully disengage claw a.
    2.  
    3. Move the inside handle in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration. This will release the claw and allow removal of the inside handle.

    5. Disconnect the 2 cables from the inside handle.

  9. Remove the front door service hole cover:
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and bracket.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the 2 connectors.
    4.  
    5. Using a screwdriver, remove the clip indicated by the arrow. Tag and remove the wire.
    6.  
    7. Remove the service hole cover.
      NOTE
      Remove the remaining tape on the door.

    8.

  11. If necessary, remove front no.2 speaker.
  12.  
  13. Remove the outer rear view mirror, as outlined in this section.
  14.  
  15. Remove front door glass outer weatherstrip.
  16.  
  17. Remove front no.1 speaker, as follows:
    1. Using a drill with a diameter of less than 4 mm (0.16 in.), drill out the 3 rivet heads and remove the speaker.
      NOTE
      Be sure to gently place the drill perpendicular to the rivet to prevent the rivet hole and the drill itself from being damaged. Be careful as the cut rivet will very hot.

    2.  
    3. Even if the flange is taken off, continue drilling and push out the remaining fragments using the drill.
    4.  
    5. Using a vacuum cleaner, remove the drilled rivet and dust from the inside of the door.
    6.

  19. Remove front door glass, as follows:
    1. For the driver-s side, temporarily install the window regulator master switch.
    2.  
    3. For the passenger-s side, temporarily install. the power window regulator switch.
    4.  
    5. Move the door glass until the bolts appear in the service holes.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 2 bolts.
      WARNING
      Be careful when removing the bolts as the glass may fall and become damaged.

    8.  
    9. Remove the door glass in the direction indicated by the arrows in the illustration.
      WARNING
      Be careful not to damage the glass.

    11. For the driver-s side: remove the window regulator master switch.

    13. For the passenger-s side: remove the power window regulator switch.

    15. Using a clip remover, remove the clip as shown in the illustration.

  21. Remove front door window regulator, as follows:
    1. Disconnect the window regulator connector.
    2.  
    3. Loosen bolt a as shown in the illustration.

    5. Remove the 5 bolts and remove the window regulator through the service hole.
      WARNING
      Be careful when removing the bolts as the window regulator may fall and become damaged.

  23. Using a T25 Torx® driver, remove the 3 screws and separate the window regulator motor.

  25. Remove the front door front lower frame bolt and frame through the service hole.
    WARNING
    Be careful when removing the bolt as the frame may fall and become damaged.

To install:

  1. Install power window regulator motor, as follows:
    1. Using a T25 Torx® driver, install the motor with the screws and tighten to 48 inch lbs. (5.4 Nm).
    2.

  3. Install front door window regulator assembly, as follows:
    1. Apply mp grease to the sliding and rotating areas of the window regulator.
      NOTE
      Do not apply grease to the spring of the window regulator.

    2.  
    3. Loosely screw bolt A onto the window regulator.
    4.  
    5. Insert the window regulator into the door panel. Use bolt A to hang the window regulator on the door panel.
    6.  
    7. Install the window regulator with the 5 bolts and tighten Bolt A to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
      WARNING
      Do not drop the window regulator.

    8.  
    9. Attach the window regulator connector.
    10.

  5. Install the front door glass, as follows:
    1. Install the glass run.
      WARNING
      Be careful not to damage the glass.

    2.  
    3. Insert the door glass into the door panel along the glass run as shown in the illustration.

    5. Install the door glass to the window regulator with the 2 bolts and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).

  7. Check power window operation as follows:
    1. Connect the power window switch to the wire harness and turn the ignition switch ON .
    2.  
    3. Use the up and down function several times.
    4.  

  8.  
  9. Using a hand riveter or an air riveter, install the front no. 1 speaker to the door with the 3 rivets.
    NOTE
    Do not prize the riveter. The riveter will be damaged and the mandrel will bend. Do not tilt the riveter when fastening the rivet to the speaker as this will cause the rivet to be loose. Do not allow any space between the rivet head and the speaker. The rivet head must be completely flat against the speaker. Do not have any space between the speaker and door. Firmly hold together the 2 items while installing the Rivet.

    1. Connect the speaker connector.
    2.

  11. Install the front door service hole cover:
    1. Apply butyl tape to the door as shown in the illustration.

    3. Install a new service hole cover.
      NOTE
      When installing the service hole cover, pull out the links and connectors through the service hole cover. There should be no wrinkles or folds after attaching the service hole cover. After attaching the service hole cover, check the sealing quality.

    5. Connect the 2 connectors and install the wire.
    6.  
    7. Install the trim bracket with the 2 bolts.
    8.

  1. Using a prytool, carefully disengage the clip and claw, and remove the front door lower frame bracket garnish.
  2.  
  3. Remove the screw, and then remove the pull handle upward.
  4.  
  5. Remove power window regulator master switch as follows:
    1. Using a prytool, carefully disengage the clip and claw, and remove the armrest upper base panel together with the switch.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the switch connector.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 3 screws and the switch from the armrest upper base panel.
      WARNING
      Be careful when removing the screw as the master switch may fall and become damaged.

  7. For the passenger-s side, use a prytool and disengage the 2 claws and remove the power window regulator switch.
    WARNING
    Be careful when disengaging the claws as the switch may fall and become damaged.

  8.  
  9. Remove the front door trim panel, as follows:
    1. Remove the screw and clip A as shown in the illustration.
    2.  
    3. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 7 clips.
    4.  
    5. Remove the trim panel upward.
      NOTE
      In order to prevent the door panel from being damaged, use protective tape to cover the areas indicated by the arrow in the illustration.

    7. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claws and remove the inner weatherstrip.
    8.

  11. Remove front door inside handle:
    1. Using a prytool, carefully disengage the claw A as shown in the illustration.
    2.  
    3. Move the inside handle in the direction indicated by the arrow in the illustration. This will release the claw and allow removal of the inside handle.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the cable from the inside handle.

  13. Remove front door service hole cover screws and bracket, then remove the service hole cover.
    NOTE
    Remove the remaining tape on the door.

  15. Remove the outer rear view mirror assembly, as outlined in this section.

  17. Remove front door glass outer weatherstrip.

  19. Remove the front no.1 speaker as follows:
    1. Using a drill with a diameter of less than 4 mm (0.16 in.), drill out the 3 rivet heads and remove the speaker.
      NOTE
      Be sure to gently place the drill perpendicular to the rivet to prevent the rivet hole and the drill itself from being damaged. Be careful as the cut rivet will very hot.

    1. Using a vacuum cleaner, remove the drilled rivet and dust from the inside of the door.

  23. Remove front door glass, as follows:

    1. Temporarily install the window regulator switch.
    2.  
    3. Move the door glass until the bolts appear in the service holes.
    4.  
    5. Remove the 2 bolts holding the door glass to the window regulator.
      WARNING
      Be careful when removing the bolts as the glass may fall and break.

    6.  
    7. Remove the door glass in the direction indicated by the arrow marks in the illustration.
      WARNING
      Do not damage the glass.

    9. Remove the glass run.
    10.  
    11. Remove the power window regulator switch.

    13. Using a prytool, carefully disengage the claw and remove the door window glass clip as shown by the arrow in the illustration.

  25. Disconnect the window regulator connector, then unfasten the 6 bolts and remove the regulator assembly through the service hole.
    WARNING
    Be careful when removing the bolts that the window regulator doesn-t fall and become damaged.

  27. Using a T25 Torx® driver, remove the 3 screws and the power window regulator motor.

to install:

  1. Installation is, for the most part, the reverse of the removal procedure, with the following exceptions that require some additional steps:

  3. Install the power window regulator motor with the 3 screws and tighten to 49 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install front door window regulator assembly into the vehicle as follows:
    1. Apply mp grease to the sliding and rotating areas of the window regulator.
      WARNING
      Do not apply grease to the spring of the window regulator.

    2.  
    3. Install the window regulator with the 6 bolts and tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
      WARNING
      Do not drop the window regulator as it may break.

    4.  
    5. Connect the window regulator connector.
    6.  

  6.  
  7. Install the front door glass:
    1. Install the glass clip as shown by the arrow mark in the illustration.

    3. Install the glass run.
      WARNING
      Be careful not to damage the glass.

    4.  
    5. Insert the door glass into the door panel along the glass run as indicated in the illustration.

    7. Install the door glass to the window regulator with the 2 bolts and tighten to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm).

  9. Check operation of the power window:
    1. Connect the power window switch to the wire harness and turn the ignition switch on.
    2.  
    3. Check that the power window control operates normally by performing the power window control switch up/down operation several times.
    4.  
    5. If the result is not as specified, check the power window control switch.
    6.

  11. Install the front speaker:
    1. Using a hand riveter or an air riveter, install the speaker to the door with 3 rivets.
      NOTE
      Do not prize the riveter. The riveter will be damaged and the mandrel will bend. Do not tilt the riveter when fastening the rivet to the speaker as this will cause the rivet to be loose. Do not allow any space between the rivet head and the speaker. The rivet head must be completely flat against the speaker. Do not allow any space between the speaker and door. Firmly hold together the 2 items while installing the rivet.

    3. Connect the speaker connector.
    4.

  13. Install front door service hole cover:
    1. Apply butyl tape to the door as shown in the illustration.

    3. Install a new service hole cover.
      NOTE
      When installing the service hole cover, pull out the links and connectors through the service hole cover. There should be no wrinkles or folds after attaching the service hole cover. After attaching the service hole cover, check for proper sealing.

    5. Install the bracket with the 2 screws.
